Problems installing a second booster: WN1000RP

Hello, this is probably a simple, even generic issue (at least I hope so) but I'm scratching my head over it and would really appreciate guidance.

I just bought two WN 1000RP boosters.  I was able to set the first up using WPS and it works as advertised.  The problem is that I cannot get the second device set up.  I think it may have something to do with the enforced naming convention (MyNetworkName_EXT) and the impossibility of naming both devices identically.  If this is the issue, I don't know how to get around it.  It must be very common for people to install two boosters but I am obviously missing a trick here and would love to know how to accomplish this.

(I notice that my model is not included in the Model drop-down menu above; does this mean I've bought an obsolete model??)

  • Bingo!  After disconnecting #1 and setting up #2 per the manual's instructions via WPS, both extenders are showing up in Attached Devices (where neither was there before, mysteriously) and appear to be working.  They have the same SSID but discrete IP addresses.  The USERNAME_EXT is the only one that shows up in my iPhone's list of available wifi networks but I guess I was mistaken to expect this to be any different with two extenders.  Having found the devices via my browser as you suggested, I took the opportunity to update their firmware and that went smoothly.  I also updated my router's fiirmware via the router interface.  Both devices now show CONNECTED but one reports 54 mbps link rate and the other 11 mbps.

Thank you for your patience and expertise.

This is a fairly technical process for the average homeowner with a wifi network  I can imagine that the various interfaces, the passwords for router, wifi and service provider and the tech protocols may be too much for most people to master by themselves.  I managed because I am reasonably competent around computers and because you were so helpful.  There must be plenty of people who are floundering though; I mean, how often would they even think to update firmware, or know how to?  I am very grateful for your assistance.

    Hello BarryjI

Have you logged into the first extender by going to www.mywifiext.net and log in with admin/password change the wireless SSID then try to connect the second extender. You could also unplug the first extender when setting up the second one to avoid issues.

Many thanks, Darren.  The link takes me to a Time Warner/Spectrum page that simply lists a bunch of possibly iffy third-part tech support services.  I am not sure how to log into my router in order to access things like extender naming, etc.  Can you advise?

Update: I have now found my way into the Netgear Genie, from which I can access my router settings, etc.  I see no way through this menu to access the one connected Netgear extender, however.  I might try the second suggestion , i.e. to unplug Extender #1 while configuring Extender #2 but I am pretty sure I tried this before.

        Hello BarryJI

If you are connected to your routers interface try going to the attached devices page and find out what the Ip address of the extender is then take that Ip address and put that into your web browser and it should then prompt you to log into the extender.
