Range extender from an AP
Hi
I'm not a tech expert so please excuse my lack of knowledge and terminology...
Last year I converted my detatched garage into an office. As part of this we ran an ethernet cable from my router to the office and plugged into a Netgear Wireless Access Point (WAC104) to create what i think is an Access Point. So in the garage we have both cabled and wifi access through the Access Point. The network name is the same as my house network with _EXT at the end.
I am now looking to add another 'garden room' building to the garden. This is too far away from the original router in the house to have signal but I do get a weak/reasonable signal from the Access Point (_EXT) in the converted garage but it's not strong enough that I trust it to be reliable all the time.
The question I have is can I use a WiFi range extender that I put in the new garden room and link it to the Access Point (_EXT) that I have in the converted garage to boost the signal from the Access Point to the new garden room.
Running an ethernet cable to the new room isn't going to be possible. I just need a way of having better WIFI in there for phones/tablets etc.
Thank you!

Problem with range extenders is that they need a good signal to rebroadcast. If the signal is sketchy, your rebroadcasted signal will be too.
Something to check into might be a point-to-point system. They are a directional signal that can broadcast long distances if there's a line of sight. They basically function as a hardwired connection. You could use something like that to connect the 2 buildings and then a cheap access point in the 2nd building connected to the point to point system.
netgear used to have the airbridge point to point system but I haven't seen it in stock in quite a while. Amazon is a good resource for them.

Thanks for this! Yes, i have heard about these. i assume they are the same as the powerline adapters? However I've read that they have to be on the same electric circuit to work.
I think the new garden room will be on the same electric circuit as the converted garage. Therefore can I use an ethernet cable coming out of the Access Point to plug into the powerpoint box. Then add the second powerpoint box in the new room which will then emit the wifi?

a point to point system isn't the same as a powerline system.
either might work for you.
I'd try the powerline first and if its to far of a run or to much interference, you could switch to the point to point system.
