Range extender keeps dropping
Hello,
I just purchased a EX6120 (today) because my EX6150 kept dropping connection randomly (after about 2 yearso). However, it looks like the problem has not gone away.
What router are you using? Verizon FiOS G3100
How far away from the router are you? 100 Feet
What material is your home made of? The router is on the same floor and is seperated by one wall of dryway.
What firmware are you on? V1.0.0.66_1.0.40
did you setup via wps or the installation wizard? installation wizard
Have you tried moving the extender closer/laterally? Yes
My setup is as follows. Extender is connected via 5Ghz. I then run an ethernet cable (25 feet) to a dummy switch in my appartment that has two connected devices, my desktop and a AP. When the connection drops, I can access the wifi on the modem/router combo just fine. But my devices connected to the EXT lose internet. I also can not ping the EXT from the devices connected with the connection drops.
I am super tech savy, (I am in IT, just not networking) but at a loss on this one.
Any suggestions?

100ft is quite a distance for 5ghz. 2.4ghz might make it but its much slower and more sensitive to interference.
If you log into your extender, what are you showing under your status for the connection back to the router?
Also, check in your g3100 to make sure self organizing network is disabled.
plemans I am sorry, I mean under 100 feet, it's much closer to 20 feet.
Here is a screenshot, it just dropped 10 seconds ago and I had to reboot again.
SON was on, does that cause problems?
I just turned it off.- plemansGuru - Experienced User
SON is verizon's version of mesh. I've heard it can cause issues if you're not using verizon extenders but I haven't ever played with it before as I don't have verizon.
