Range Extender no longer working

I have been using a range extender for the past couple of years, but it is no longer working.  The main modem/router is functioning, but when I go through the setup process by pressing the WPS buttons on both, it seems to kick the wifi signal off of the router and extender.  Could there be a setting that is off in the wireless setup?  I can't figure out why it suddenly stopped working and don't want to buy a new extender if I can figure out how to correct this problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    You can try manually setting up the extender instead of using WPS. The steps are described on this link.
