range extender nuttiness EX6100-100NAS

(1) currently this range extender DOES not appear on the network list for my verizon fios quantum gateway router when my other netgear extender does. of course verizon says this is a netgear problem.

(2) when this extender finally shows up, the ipv4 address allocation shows as STATIC and the ipv4 address is WRONG! the setting in the extender is 'get ip address from the router.'

has anyone else seen this?

  • this is all moot now. verizon sent a 'reset' thru fios and low and behold! everything now works and shows up properly. both netgear routers are there with proper ip4 addresses etc. seems that when i installed the new router, i forgot to call verizon to have them 'ting' (their words) the new router.

What static IP address are you seeing? Is the Quantum showing the device status as "active"?

I'm a little puzzled here, since I've never seen a device show up in my own Quantum router that has a static IP address.  However, I double-route to an Orbi, so there are aren't many devices connected to the Quantum.

the ipv4 address is 192.168.1.164.  the ipv4 address allocation is STATIC and the device is active. obviously since it is static, i cannot connect to it via the quantum router. when i disconnect the netgear ex6100 and plug it back in, the identical info comes back. i think verizon has no idea what this quantum router does nor how it acts.  i'm beginning to think the ex6100 is somehow broken but i've never seen a piece of electronics 'break' yet still work and have valid bogus settings. if, in fact, this is a valid static ip address, you should be able to connect and get a login screen.

Do you mean the "lease type" is set to static?  That's different from saying the address itself is static. A static address is assigned in the client device, not the router.

What happens if you ping 198.168.1.164 from the router?  You do that from the "advanced" screen (click on "diagnostics" - which is the first item under "Utilities".
