Use range extender with AirPrint?

Some time ago, I discovered that our cable modem's WiFi won't support AirPrint, so I've been using a D-Link WiFi device to provide that.  I have a bit of a difficult setup because the cable comes into our living room, but most of my devices (NAS, VoIP box, printer) are in my office that doesn't have easy cabled access to the cable modem.  I've been using two CPL devices to connect from the cable modem to a switch and the WiFi box in my office, but the CPL devices occasionally disconnect for no apparent reason.  I discovered that my D-Link box can work as a network extender, but when I do that, it doesn't create its own WiFi network like some of the Netgear devices do.  It gives me a more reliable extension to my office over WiFi, but then I loose AirPrint because the WiFi is now originating at the cable box that doesn't support it.

I'm hoping that the EX6200 or similar is a solution.  Use it to extend the basic network connection via WiFi but then produce its own WiFi network connection to use with all my AirPrint devices.  Will that work for me?

  • I ended solving my problem by getting two Netgear PLP1200 powerline adapters.  They provide lightning speed and haven't dropped the connection in the several weeks that I've had them.  I don't think the range extender would have been as reliable or as easy to set up.
