Want to replace my Nighthawk X10 router with a longer range wifi router
I have a 3 year old Nighthawk X10 router for my home, barn (300 feet away) and dock (150 feet away). I have two Netgear extenders in both the barn and dock. This has worked pretty well for 3 years but want to upgrade. The X10 router is located in my living room and for the signal to reach the extender in the barn it has to go through 2 walls (wood paneling), aluminum siding and then a window at the barn (where the extender is located). Signal strength is -30 at the outside of my house and -63 300 feet away inside the window at the barn. This degradation in signal results in a speed reduction from 100 mbps to about 20 to 25 mbps at the barn. I can't run ethernet and I would prefer not to install a point to point from my house to the barn. As I said, the X10 router does work fine but I would like to upgrade to a router that has a little more power. Does anyone have experience with and can suggest one of the newer Netgear routers that will have a better signal at 300 feet than my older X10? Thanks!

Power and throughput is limited by regulations, not by newer technologies and standards like AX. Time for the inconvenient ... a good Hilti cam help.

For that distance, to get good wireless and performance, point to point would be recommended. Most household routers, even good ones, 300feet is out side of wifi router coverage in distances. To get something across this distance, point to point could work. Something similar to this could work: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/wbc502
Best would be ethernet.

Thank you for your quick reply but as I posted I can't run ethernet easily (20' wide concrete driveway between house and barn) and I prefer not to install point to point (very inconvenient to run ethernet cord from router, through walls, up to attic and to outside wall as well as getting power to the unit). So, back to my question, it sounds like you are saying Netgear has not produced a router with a stronger signal in the past 3 years than my current Nighthawk X10?

Can try any router and see. Most home class routers wifi range won't cover that range. If they do, wouldn't be great signal.
