what is default preamble setting and can it be changed?

trying to get stable connection between 7000 and 2500, and suggestion from r7000 forum is to modify preamble on r7000 to short from the default of long.

when i do this on the 7000, i lose connectivity to the 2500 and all connectivity to clients.

i see two other strings asking similar questions here, but no answers on what default is or how to change it.

is it possible to change this on 2500 and if so how?

Since it is a extender it's not even applicable is my understanding.

fait enough, but any idea as to why changing it on AP kills the connection?

Long is required I'm guessing to avoid data collisions since another device is now in play. It's like talking on the phone when both are using speaker phone, constantly trying to talk at the same time.
