WiFi Range Extender Kills ARRIS Cable Connection
Our internet is provided by our cable company. The cable goes from the wall though a splitter into a cable box/gateway and a modem/router. The cable box/gateway and modem/router are also connected by a standard ethernet cable.
I added an ex6100v2 WiFi extender to the mix and it works perfectly. Great WiFi throughout the home. However, every 2-3 hours the cable (TV) goes out (not the WiFi though) and will only restart if the modem/router is restarted. Turn off the extender and the problem goes away.
The cable company has tried a few things but has now said that it is not their extender so I am on my own. They say there is no reason why an extender should be having this impact.
There are a lot of settings for both the modem/router and the extender, but I have no idea what to try. Before I spend $100 on the cable company's extender I thought Id ask for ideas.
How is an extender killing the cable tv (the WiFi always works though) and what can I do about it? Help? Thanks!
Looks like problem fixed. Following advice seen here and elsewhere, I upped the IP lease time on the router from default 1 hour to a couple of days. No real idea why this works but no crashes for 3 days now.

Lots of calls to cable company (ISP) and extender manufacturer accomplished nothing. So I tried something from a Google search and the problem has gone away so far (12 hours and counting).
I set the extender to static IP and set IP to 192.168.0.10. I think this may have been the default.
Then went to router and saw it was set to generate IPs of 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254 (I think). I changed the lower bound to 192.168.0.11 so that it would not overlap with the extender.
So far so good, but honestly not sure whether I made a difference, or whether fix will last.

Nope. Cable box went back out after 19 hours. A new record, but still out.
