Wifi suddenly stopped working for no apparant reason
Well first let me say that I know nothing about any of this or how it's set up; I'm not the one that set it up and that person is no longer here. The NETGEAR is "54 mbs wireless access point WG602 v4" (I think this is a Wifi extender?) and the modem is a Surfboard SB6141 that goes into a TP Link router and some other TP Gigabit thing that idk what it does.
Everything worked fine until Wed afternoon, I was in the middle of watching a vid when my cell phone disconnected from the wifi. Nothing could connect to the wifi, including IPad Mini, bro's iPhone, etc. but landline stuff ie PC, smart TV, PS4, and phones (through Ooma) were all fine. When I went out, I could still connect to guest wifi on my phone just fine, just not the home wifi: it says the signal strength is good but it gets stuck on "obtaining IP" or on "connecting" and then does nothing.
Tried reseting via holding down the reset button and also unplugging everything for several minutes and that fixed nothing. Tried calling Comcast today, they did a reset, and said it wasn't on their end and to call the Motorola modem tech support but they wanted like $60 or something crazy!! Yeah no way.
Crazily enough bro's PS4 stopped connecting Thurs saying it didn't detect the ethernet cable, but that might just be a coincidence. But then the home phone went down yesterday. The Ooma siginal just blinks read and we get no dial tone.
I'm at a complete loss at this point, any help or direction would be appreciated.

If the ethernet devices still work, then the issue is likely the wifi access point.
The WG602v4 is around ~10 years old, and the wifi speeds are very slow by current standards. So I'd consider getting a new wifi access point. What model router do you have, and what internet speed are you getting from Comcast?
If you do want to delve into this some more, you could go through the troubleshooting guide in the manual (section 5). The manual is here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/WG602v4/Documentation/RM/WG602v4_RM_07June07.pdf

Hi, sorry for the delay in reply but the pc had suddenly stopped working (wouldn't turn on).
I mentioned previously actually, that the modem is a Surfboard SB6141 that goes into a TP Link router and some other TP Gigabit thing and idk what that does. Also, the phones stopped working a couple days after the WIFI. The phones are through the Internet via Ooma. I guess that means it's not the wifi?
I personally find nothing wrong with WG602v4. It seems fast to me, enough that I can watch vids on YouTube and that's all I really need. I would like to avoid spending the money on anything if at all possible.
I read through the manual and nothing in it helped.
Please understand too that I am not tech savy. I litterally had to look up what an Ethernet is when I read your post and still have only a vague idea. I was trying very hard to not lose any of the original settings but it looks like I accidentally reset everything when I unknowingly did a "hard reset". I'm at a total loss now.- azs6751Aspirant
I don't see a way to edit so let me add this: I tried to go through the steps in the NetGear manual for inital setup but when going to http://192.168.0.227 I get an error saying the page will not load.
I realised also that this home network is not set up like most. When the house was built in 2001 there were... I guess you would say ports? for each room, to plug into the cable / Internet. So the modem and router and whatever are in the basement, but the NetGear thing is up in the bedroom and uses an ethernet cable to plug into a splliter that then plugs into the wall. The SmartTV is on the splitter as well but that still works.
I don't know if this is relevant. I sort of inherited the house and stuff and don't have a clue. I just know that this is definately not how the manual showed it being set up.
