WN2000RPT - Internet Access Keeps Dropping
All of my devices can continually access the WN2000RPT device and access the local network as well as the internet. However, after some time, the internet connection drops for the repeater only - I can still access the local network but not the internet.
Is there a timeout or something that would cause it to lose it's connection? Seems that bouncing the repeater works, albeit temporarily.
thanks.

The router is connected to a netgear cable modem that is wireless n. this router is really bugging the hell out of me and I think its time to count my losses and throw it in the bin and get a different brand. Netgear don't seem to want to do anything about this. I also don't seem to understand why I should be paying for a wireless n device that only gives wireless g speeds?? I am really annoyed about this router situation. - mw49827AspirantHmm - I see the same 54M in the stats window. Obviously, I would expect more :-(
@vinceroebuck
Since I power cycled the repeater I've had no connection issues - so far :-) - vinceroebuckApprenticeGuys, i know this is frustrating but hang in there. what i did was set up static ips for all my system. thats 15 total. you do that in the main router. the wn2000rpt is set up with static ip. the main router is say 192.168.1.1 and the wn2000 static ip is 192.168.1.100. in the wn2000 i turned off dhcp. google turning off dhcp in wn2000rpt and its in there. its a hidden command in the login that is not visible for some strange reason!! i am not a techno geek, but like they say, patience. good luck
- standDownAspirantHad this problem for a while. First the repeater kept dropping the signal and then it was no internet at all. For me the fix was
1. disable dhcp on the repeater.
2. give the repeater a static ip address.
3. unchecked the check for new version upon login under firmware upgrade.
4. roll the firmware back to the initial release version 1.0.0.2. (download it from here to your desktop. then upload it to the repeater.
After that i have a steady connection and i can access the internet.
Good luck it's been very frustrating but my problems are solved! - stevecmanAspirantI purchased my WN2000RPT in April 2011 and it worked great for the first 6 months after which I experienced increasing disconnects requiring a manual rest (by turning the unit off and back on). After reading all 18 pages of the forum thread, and not being technically inclined, I decided to try a firmware update. If that didn't solve the problem, I planned to toss the unit and get another brand.
I updated the firmware to Version 1.01.24NA about 10 days ago and since that time I have had ZERO disconnects and speeds, both up and down, are great.
As a non-tech person, I had been very disappointed with the complexity of set-up and maintenance of D-Link and Linksys wi-fi products and have found Netgear to be the most user-friendly, with Belkin a close second.
From the comments on the forum, it appears there is a great deal of frustration that Netgear was not forthcoming on what the issues were with the WN2000RPT or that any effort was being made to address them.
Now that the .24 firmware is installed, my WN2000RPT is working great and my faith in Netgear has been restored. I hope those reading this message are as sucessful! - vinceroebuckApprenticehey stevecman,
glad you got it going with the latest update. since my install i have had no problems with mine either.have taken it on trips to rv parks where the wifi signal was marginal and used the rpter on that system with no problems. keep us posted here on this site. vince. - qbondAspirantI use one of these range extenders as an aerial to pick up my wireless in the house, and it is then wired to my main computer. I have had it about a year. It drops out all the time and then sometimes, but not all times, reconnects to the wireless signal. My laptop in the same room has no problem picking up the original wireless signal; shows 4 or 5 (out of 5) bars of signal strength all the time. It's obvious that the Netgear thing, which is supposed to pick up a signal, can't even pick up what my laptop can do all the time.
Now, the Netgear item used to drop out every hour or so but now drops out every 5 minutes. Or less. I am forever switching it off and on again and it works for a few minutes and then drops out. Again. It's driving me crazy.
I gather from the numerous posts that I am not the only one with this problem.
Any suggestions welcome. - scoobAspirantI have 3 of these devices, I've updated their firmware, connected them to several streaming devices in the house, and both my DSL and Cable Modem connections from Qwest and MediaCom. This problem persists. I purchased these devices to be used as bridges for non-wireless streaming video devices. It will work fine streaming Netflix for about a half an hour or so and then will drop connection with the router. It appears in the Netgear WNDR3700 router log as the device is providing invalid security at the time stamp when it drops the connection. Obviously the correct key has been loaded into the Netgear devices, the problem appears with the ability of the Netgear WN2000RPT to maintain its connection.
Many of the post in this thread expressed by the users remind me of the problems I'm experiences with the extender.
When will Netgear resolve this issue properly? Will there have to be a class action case eventually to get this resolved? - EdwardJAspirantI have the exact same issue. I am at my end here with all these constant drops. Netgear, from my view, has shown no effort to address this issue. I am currently looking for a new wireless extender at this point in time. Netgear has lost me as a customer for sure.
- EdweNoviceI have strugled a long time now, this appear to be a wery bad product.
Using a WNDR3700 that I want to extend with the WN2000RPT (do not now if ver 1 or 2). Internet ceeps droping, peering them again with WPS works until next drop.
We inly use phones, Ipad and sometime a notebook so its minimal trafic.
Werry unhapy with Nutgear at the moment :(
