WN2000RPT requires restarts

Hi - I have managed to setup my WN2000RPT as follows:

- Updated firmware to *.20 (nothing worked until I did)
- Dynamic IP
- WPA2 Security
- Connected (also through Dynamic IP) to my wireless router, which in turn connects to my cable modem
- Clients connecting to the WN2000RPT are a laptop, 2xAndroid phones and a steaming box (netflix etc) for the TV.

Everything works just fine for several hours at a time, then all clients of the WN2000RPT lose network, and cant reconnect. The WN2000RPT refuses to allow reconnects. While this is happening my main network (i.e. the one the extender connects to) is working just fine, and allowing connections.

Powering down the WN2000RPT and starting it again fixes the issue - all clients automatically reconnect & all is well for another few hours, then the pattern repeats.

Seems like either an issue with the WN2000RPT itself (h/w or firmware?) or, for some reason the WN2000RPT's connection to my main network becomes invalid (IP gets invalidated?)

I've tried moving the WN2000RPT both close to & far from the main router. I've tried lying it flat & then standing it on end (in case heat was an issue).

I have not yet tried static IPs (which should narrow the possibilities a bit) - mainly because I dont really know what that will mean for my client devices...

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is this an issue that has been seen before?

Kind Regards
Brian

  • I have basically the same issue and I am unable to detect what happens.

I use my WN2000RPT to connect a couple of wired devices to a WNDR4000.
Setup of the WN2000RPT went smoothly and I was able to connect the wired devices (a TV and a Blu-ray) to the internet thru' the 4000.

After some time the WN2000RPT and the devices connected to it disappear from my network. I haven't found any way to detect it in the logs on the 4000.
And since the 2000 requires power cycling to reconnect, even if it did contain a log, that would be wiped anyway.

The 2000 connects to the 4000 without having to set up any Wireless Repeating Function on the 4000 (which btw only support WEP and not WPA2).

    2000 running V1.0.1.20.
    4000 running V1.0.0.66_8.0.55

Ideas anyone, except for a bug in the 2000?
  • I'm having a very similar issue. I have a Netgear WN2000RPT range extender running the latest firmware (1.0.1.20NA) connected to a Linksys E2000 wireless router (firmware version 1.0.04). It seems like I have to restart the Netgear device every day or two to keep it working. When the Netgear range extender isn't working I can connect without a problem directly to the Linksys wireless router. Maybe I should get a plug timer and reboot the range extender nightly...
  • I ran a support case thru' Netgear support and they were very helpful and provided me with a debugging image for the WN2000RPT.

In the end the issue turned out to be a problem with my WNDR4000 router, and since upgrading to 10.0.0.82_8.0.71 on that I haven't had any problems.
  • Hello,

I have 3 WN2000RPT throughout the house and have a problem of lost WIFI connection.
The WN2000RPT that is connected to the ISP via WIFI Router, after 1-4 hours, and sometimes can be 1 day, loses connection with the WIFI Router ISP.
Entertained with the other two this is not happening.
After several tests and many wasted hours trying to solve the problem, I made an update to the latest version of fireware (V1.0.1.20) and the problem remains.
What can I do more? Anyone know of any resolution?
  • Hello,
Wifi connection problem that is lost after a while ....
The distance between the ISP router is 3 meters and the percentage is 100%.
The channel I'm using right now is the 4 channel because this channel does not have any more available network.
If you use channel 1, 7 or 13, I have a lot of interference and breaks the connection because there are many routers to use these channels.
Using the connection channel 4 is more than four hours but more than 2 days EVER.
Even using other devices to reduce interference, my problem remains, and it seems that the only or not. The repeater after a certain time loses connection with the wireless router from your ISP, and this is what is my main problem. I remember that I have two other repeaters WN2000RPT with the latest version of fireware (V1.0.1.20) and do not lose wireless connection when connected to the ISP Router.
What can I do more? Anyone know of any resolution?
The link to the fireware V.1.0.1.26 which provided for WN2000RPT is off. Can you give me the link to the fireware.O WN2000RPT I have is the European version.
     :(
  • any solution on this? I got the same problem.. everything works nicely.. until suddenly.. nothig works anymore.. restart and it works again!
  • Same issue here ! bought WN3000RT and connection drop regularly ,I have to restart the router in order to get back connection !! any solution ?? I'm thinking about returning back the router and get a Cisco or any other brand .

Guys from Netgear ! get us answers !
  • I was getting this problem and NetGear support told me to setup the WN2000 manually - i.e. with Laptop connected directly, without using the WPS button. So far so good... although time will tell.
  • I've just set up my WN2000PRTv2 and it seems to connect fine (no drops, yet),
But the connection is very slow. I can't even view the simplest UTube video.
Is this normal for this repeater, or is there a way to speed it up?
    thanks
  • My situation is so similar to the one of bpbyrne below. It can be summarized by:
    - firmware 1.0.1.20
    - Dynamic IP
    - WPA2 Security.
    - Connected (also through Dynamic IP) to my wireless router (Cisco X3000), which in turn connects to the Internet.
    - Clients connecting to the WN2000RPT are a laptop, 2xiPads, 1xiPhone, 1xiPod.

Everything works just fine for several hours at a time, then all clients of the WN2000RPT lose Internet connection. While this is happening my main network (i.e. the one the extender connects to) is connecting to Internet just fine.

Powering down the WN2000RPT and starting it again fixes the issue - all clients automatically reconnect & all is well for another few hours, then the pattern repeats.

I have not yet tried static IPs, I don't even know what this would imply for the clients.
