WNDR3400v2 5GHz Issues
I purchased the N600 (WNDR3400v2) Wireless Dual Band Router last week and had no issues with the setup and getting all my devices to connect, however, I only recently discovered that only my xbox360 is the only device that can connect to the 5GHz band/channel. Both the 2.4 & 5GHz wireless router radio's are enabled and their SSID's are being broadcasted, I have the latest firmware installed (1.0.0.16), etc. so how come my xbox360 is the only device that can connect/even find the 5GHz channel? Not even my 2 month old iPhone 4S can detect the 5GHz channel, just the 2.4GHz, and it has the hardware/capability to do so, but for some reason it is not.
So am I doing something wrong? I appreciate any feedback you can offer..

- GregthreeAspirantIntersting. My PC is also running on the 2.4, the status says it is running at 70Mbps on average. This is a win7 and is a year old HP. I have an older HP that I have a Netgear adapeter hooked up to and it sees both SIDD that are in the router settings. My new HP only sees the slower SIDD. in fact, the Old Pc with adapter finds 8 possible connections, my new PC only finds the one possible connection. Also, I am not able to create any new connections either.
Like you what gives. The older PC with the adapter is status showing at 215 Mbps. I hope we can get an answer to this problem together. - jmizoguchiVirtuosoWNDR3400 is not access point device.. it is wireless routers.

I understand that. Is the 5GHz that much faster. I know its a different band and that it is slightly faster but 3 times fster. My WNDA3100 that is hooked up to my old pc is pulling 210 Mbps while my newer PC is only maximizing out at around 70Mbps.
With that said, even though I have a built in wireless adapter in the new PC, can't I hook up an adapter to it to get the better speeds? - jmizoguchiVirtuosoWhy not!
Disable built-in wifi and use USB adapter - GregthreeAspirant

I tried that and the PC would not connect or recognize it as a connection. I even usedthe WSP button to find it. Sould I disable the internal wi fi first. Reboot the pc and go that route.
Is there really enough advantage of doint the adapter to warrant using the adapter. I am really unclear on what I will gain by goin to the 5.0. - jmizoguchiVirtuoso2.4Ghz has better range than 5Ghz so most will use 2.4ghz unless you live area with congested 2.4ghz
- GregthreeAspirantSo the 5G is faster because it has less congestion. So if there are 5 peices of equipment using the router, it is best to separate them if the electronic will use either one?
Separate case, is there a reason why my newer pc will only max out at 73Mbps in the 2.4G while the older PC will go to 150 something on a 2.5g. Is there a setting in the PC to increase that speed.
WIll I notice the difference? - Vicman006AspirantOMG this post has been up for 5 years and nobody gave a concrete answer. This user probably found the answer yrs later but for others, here it its
All routers run on either Wireless 802.11 N or G. All wireless devices are made compliant with 802.11N (the newest) which encloses G, 2G up to 4G.
The new player is 802.11AC which is 5G. Xbox 360 was 802.11AC capable. This is why it was the only device capable of seeing your 5G band. Only 802.11AC capable devices such as new laptops, phones, anything after 2010 is AC capable (except for PS4) How good is 5G? I have Optimum 75 the only way I could get 50MB/s on my PS4 was right next to the router. Otherwise just 15-20. I plugged my PS4 Pro to the 5G band with 2 rooms in between and I still get 62MB/S zero lag.
The best of this is that the general public dont know this, "get me on WiFi" that's it. These routers also have a guest network which you can limit to let say 2 hours for visitors, have the regular network for most stuff and reserve your 5G for your 4K streaming, gaming, etc.
In short, old devices cant detect 5G since they are built for 4G.
