WNHDE111 disconnects/issues
Recently picked up the WNHDE111 kit and am having a few issues.
It hooked up fine, and found each other not problem. I have been able to access the internet with nice speeds from the far bridged end by being able to fully patch a new HTPC OS build through it. Did some testing of streaming some video and that worked fine too. I get an average rate of about 80%.
Now, the problem. I was trying to COPY some large files (multi-GB) from a wireless workstation on myh 11g network through the WNHDE111 kit to the far end workstation. It seems this higher than DSL speed activity causes the bridge WNHDE111 to lose its connection within 2-3 minutes (sometimes less). The device will have no lights on what-so-ever.
I have now set each device to their proper roll (i.e. AP and BRIGE hard coded instead of AUTO). I set static IP addresses for each.
Something strange I am noticing is on the AP when looking at the wireless status, it shows the IP of the bridge as one from my DHCP range (not the static address that has been assigned to it, and is used for management of the device). Why?
Any other suggestions for helping this device work under load? As it seems it isnt noise, but amount of traffic at LAN speed when copying files, as I have had no issues with normal internet speed activities.

- megadavewhnNoviceI'm having the same problems - I doubt its hardware related. But if you ever find a solution, I'd love to hear it.
- MeobAspiranti transferred 600gb of .vobs over 2 * wnhde111 with no problems at all.
- Well, I've just purchased a pair of these fella's to improve media transfer between my ReadyNAS and the EVA8000. The first day was great - no juddering with anything I streamed to the EVA. Then, the next night, I noticed no light on the unit acting as the EVA-connected Bridge. There was a link light on the back, but nothing on the front. Pushing WPS did nothing. As the on/off made no difference, I pulled the power plug out. It powered on and re-connected fine. All good. Started watching a movie.
Then the next night I was streaming music and it stopped - the EVA reported a lost network connection, Sure enough, the unit had gone off again. Link light on. Power plug out and in - all good again.
I looked in the manual and it mentions nothing about an automatic daily shut-down. Presumably an energy saving initiative... :(
And, for the record, I don't believe it's hardware after reading many similar problems. I'd rather believe it's a firmware problem over a massive quality control issue in Netgear's production line. - mikepaulAspirantI've tried to keep my pair connected by only turning on the Bridge just before I use it, but even that only works for a while. Occasionally the 'while' is long enough.
What it comes down to is that the Bridge refuses to stay connected, and the log on the AP usually says the connection was deauthenticated or something. Turning off all the QoS stuff wasn't the answer, so I have no idea why they just don't stay connected. New firmware that offers little or no opportunity for an automatic disconnect would be nice... - eqwalkerAspirantI have just purchased a pair (kit) of these as well and I was streaming video with no problem....for about 3 to 5 minutes and then it just quits. I have to reboot the AP to get it back up and then it only stays up for 3 to 5 minutes of streaming. I have opened a ticket with NetGear on it. How many others are experiencing this problem?
- Eqwalker, I (and many others) have sporadic issues with a dropped connection by the Bridge, but nothing with the regularity you describe. And always resolved by resetting the Bridge (pulling the power plug out/in), not the AP.
I'd like to hear the outcome of the ticket though. I personally believe there is a protocol problem with the unit established as the Bridge - losing a "keep alive" sync with the AP perhaps so that it thinks there's no longer an AP connected? Needs resolution at the firmware level IMHO... - mikepaulAspirantI'm growing worried that some lab test unit refuses to disconnect so the rest of us will be considered to have defective hardware and no fixed firmware is coming.
I guess I'll have to swap the devices, reverse their switch positions, and then see if the hardware issue moves to the AP or not. If it's ALWAYS the Bridge unit that shuts off, no matter which hardware is acting as the Bridge, I'll have a hard time buying the 'hardware' story... - Tried swapping before and problem followed - it's always the Bridge. But, hey, it could be just mine... ;)
- FastlaneNoviceHaving the same issue too (can I hear an echo???).. only thing different, is I'm connecting to an Apple Airport Extreme with the WNHDE111 in bridge mode.
Besides the problem with it losing connection and poor performance for video (stuttering in video etc when streaming from my NAS over the link), I've also had alot of trouble getting decent singal strength on 802.11n with the bridge. Can't get it any higher than 70%, even when both of the devices are line-of-sight. - FastlaneNoviceWell, support with Netgear is disappointing.
They've told me to buy another WNHDE111 'coz it "has to be a compatibility problem with the Airport Extreme".
