WNHDE111 disconnects/issues
Recently picked up the WNHDE111 kit and am having a few issues.
It hooked up fine, and found each other not problem. I have been able to access the internet with nice speeds from the far bridged end by being able to fully patch a new HTPC OS build through it. Did some testing of streaming some video and that worked fine too. I get an average rate of about 80%.
Now, the problem. I was trying to COPY some large files (multi-GB) from a wireless workstation on myh 11g network through the WNHDE111 kit to the far end workstation. It seems this higher than DSL speed activity causes the bridge WNHDE111 to lose its connection within 2-3 minutes (sometimes less). The device will have no lights on what-so-ever.
I have now set each device to their proper roll (i.e. AP and BRIGE hard coded instead of AUTO). I set static IP addresses for each.
Something strange I am noticing is on the AP when looking at the wireless status, it shows the IP of the bridge as one from my DHCP range (not the static address that has been assigned to it, and is used for management of the device). Why?
Any other suggestions for helping this device work under load? As it seems it isnt noise, but amount of traffic at LAN speed when copying files, as I have had no issues with normal internet speed activities.

- GLaDOSTutorcan you give a diagram of your network, and how you've got it set up? Please also put what IP addresses you're getting for every device as a part of the digram. It's hard to know how you're trying to get this to work without a better description of the network itself.
- Thunder7AspirantSure can.
WGR614 router <-> WNHDE111 AP <- WNHDE111 Bridge
192.168.1.1 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.3
WGR614 is being used to host 802.11g connections (2 laptops and 1 desktop). The AP is connected via ethernet to the router. The Bridge is hosting 1 desktop and 1 Xbox 360. All the devices receive a DHCP address from the router in the 192.168.1.10x range. The subnet mask for all is /24.
Need anything else? - jmizoguchiVirtuoso

so what is IP of this AP are getting? 192.168.1.10x I assume.
transfer from G to N wireless speed will bring you bottle neck and moving higher file size may seize the transfer.
here is the throughput of wireless you will expect.. good article

Yes, 10.168.1.103. Not sure why when the LAN IP address is set to static 10.128.1.3
Perhaps the transition from G to N is causing it lock up? Hmm....still it shouldnt do that.
The bridge is also requiring a reset everyday...even if nothing is passing through it. It will work (like now), but tomorrow if I come back I cannot get to the internet even though the lights on the bridge OK. Reset it, and it works again.
Just being a pain. - Thunder7AspirantI contacted support via e-mail on this and that didnt get too far. I will be calling in soon to troubleshoot this.
The bridge is now requiring a reset daily. It will work with web speed activity for the day, but within 24 hours it will disconnect from the AP and not reconnect without a hard restart of the bridge. - GLaDOSTutorHave you tried replacing it? Because it sounds like something else is wrong.

I am definately starting to lean toward a hardware problem with the bridge itself. Fixed the IP issue finally, so it is getting the static IP assigned, but it still disconnects within 24 hours from the AP, every single day.
I am going to be calling support this week, when i have a chance for a hour or two to spend on it. I think they may come to the conclusion that it is a hardware issue. - Thunder7AspirantAfter 3-4 calls and various changes and waiting to see results (all of which were the same), Support finally deemed the hardware being bad. So they will be sending me a new one. Which is a good thing. Bad thing is that it costs ME money to get them to do this. Not sure why the RMA is not on their dime (I could have sent mine at my cost and 10 working days later got something back -- but then I'd have no connectivity for that period for more than 1/2 my devices). Since I bought it from an online retailer, I didnt want to have to start the process of getting it replaced for failure from them either.
Overall, the support was good. Just hope the new one will not have these issues (as the other device in the kit has been fine in either AP or Bridge mode). - GLaDOSTutorIt's part of the warranty agreement you agree to when purchasing the unit. Section 2, I believe. Which states that Netgear will pay one way, you pay for the other way. So at least you didn't get the short end the stick and pay both ways.
- wbradneyAspirantI'm getting exactly the same issue with sustained file transfers.
I've got the Intel 4965AGN in Dell Inspiron 1720 and it works fine in B/G mode with my old Linksys G Router.
When I connect in N mode to the Netgear WNHDE111, the connection works fine for a while with light surfing and email etc, but as soon as I try to do a sustained transfer of a large file the Netgear locks up hard (power light off) and will only respond again (even on the wired interface) after a power cycle. Once the Netgear dies I can successfully revert to B/G mode against the Linksys without resetting the Intel adapter or restarting the notebook, so I'm quite sure it's a problem with the Netgear device.
I have the latest firmware in the Netgear and I'm running WPA2-AES encryption as recommended.
This comment concerns me:jmizoguchi wrote: transfer from G to N wireless speed will bring you bottle neck and moving higher file size may seize the transfer.
"Seize the transfer"? I'd be happy for the transfer to slow down due to a bottleneck, but locking up the Access Point is unacceptable.
I guess I should try to exchange my WNHDE111 also?
