AC750 wIfI ROUTER R6020 password issue
Router is currently hooked up and working fine for my Roku TV system. I'm trying to connect to the internet with a laptop running win7. The computer finds the router with sidi netgear81. But then it asks for an 8 digit password that is supposed to be on the sticker on top of the router. Problem is, the password is 10 letters and 3 numbers. (fluffyship347) The computer will not accept letters for this password only numbers. I'm an old fart with no grandkids handy. I'm actually amazed I got this far. What do i do?
I found under where it wanted the 8 digit pin there was a link that said "or enter network key code" . I clicked on that and entered that fluffyship 347 and it worked. Problem solved. Thanks anyway.

Try typing the password in Notepad, then copy/paste it from Notepad to the password field.
If you need, you can update the password on the router, but you'll then have to reconnect all your other devices.

What asks for the password? Something in Windows?
I have yet to come across a wifi client that says anything about the length of the password.
Well, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I went to control panel-->network and internet--->connect to network then it pops up a list of potential routers. available and green bars I'm gussing is signal strength. I click on netgear81 and a window pops up saying "Type the 8 digit PIN from the router display. It shows a picture of the router with an arrow showing where the pin number is located on top. Everything fits except I don't have a 8 digit pin. Is there another way I should be connecting to the router? This is my first experience with a lap top and wifi

Ah, PIN. That's different. Sounds like you are not connecting to the SSID but with WPS. (Don't you love all those abbreviations.) WPS is supposed to be a trouble free way of connecting to wifi.
There is a manual for the R6020 somewhere at the end of this link:

Check the section Use WPS With the PIN Method.
That will tell you how to find the PIN for your router.
But it would be better to look for the SSID entry point. Then you can use the "passphrase" you mentioned earlier.
I don't know how your laptop is configured – the people who make them love to impose their own layers of complication – but in Windows 10 I see this:
- Control Panel
- Network and internet
- Connect to a network
- Find the SSID written on the router
- Click
- Connect
I then get asked to fill in the passphrase, which is the one on the label.
If that doesn't get you where you want to be, check the laptop's manual for how to connect to wifi.
- I'm an old fart with a computer science degree. No big deal really. The version of windows was made before the need for ten digit passwords and therefore won't take the pass. Upgrade to windows 8/ 10 or download a version of Linux that has your laptops firmware pre-installed. The router is fine. The laptop is fine. The software / operating system is to old.
