Attached Devices Often Blank

Model Version:  WNDR3300v1

Firmware Version: V1.0.45_1.0.45NA (Latest?)

I don’t recall this being this bad in the past, but lately the "Device Name" values in the "Attached Devices" page usually show either "--" or "ANDROID-nnnnnnnnn" for all non-Windows devices. Almost all of the devices have friendly Device Names in the "Address Reservation" section on the "LAN Setup" page, but that does not seem to help.

What can I do to correct this?

  • That's the default design for the Attached Devices to pick up the NetBIOS name assigned on the devices.

You may suggest that by posting it in our Idea and Exchange board and give it a vote to be noticed and be reviewed by our developers.

    Hello bryguy28,

    Welcome to the community!

Have you tried reflashing the firmware and doing a factory reset?

If you have not, kindly do so and let us if it will fix it.

By the way, the firmware can be downloaded from here.

The reboot associated with the f/w update kicked about 10 devices off the router that have yet to return. I can certainly plan a factory reset next, but why in the world to all our Android devices report generic device names: "ANDROID-<16 alpha numeric characters>"?

      Thanks,

NETGEAR Routers uses NETBIOS to show the device name.

You may want to check with your device manufacturer to get a better explanation regarding those numbers.
