Cannot Connect to R6100 Router

AC1200 WiFi Router Model R6100 (wasn't an option in the model section)

Today, setup Spectrum modem, verified it's working, connected the router and nothing can connect to it via wifi or ethernet. Through ethernet, running diagnostic says IP configuration is not valid. Things I've tried:

- Checking loose wiring

- Replace ethernet between router and modem

- Reset modem and router and all combinations between them.

- Factory Reset on router

- Connecting to another ethernet port on the router

Anyone have suggestions? Thanks.

  • Yeah...idk what happened but it works now...i guess i hit the correct number of factory resets cause apparently the third time was the charm...after the factory reset, gained access to routerlogin somehow and followed the setup wizard which required toggling power to the modem one last time, then everything worked

  • Some more information:

I was using this router with a different modem/router with at&t today, so I don't think it's an equipment malfunction. It's also not a device problem because multiple devices all up to date cannot connect. And by connect, I mean they can connect to wifi, but there is no internet access.

  • I don't see where you bypassed the router. If I missed it, sorry.

Connect direct from the computer to the modem with an Ethernet cable. Power cycle the modem. Go to the kitchen for a snack and drink. Seriously, several minutes should elapse. When there are good lights on the modem, check the computer. If no joy, run the troubleshooting diagnostic on the computer. Call Spectrum if necessary.

Thanks for the reply, so the modem I have from Spectrum is verified working, I can connect to it via ethernet and I have internet access. I want to connect the router to the modem so I'll have wifi. The router is connected to the modem through an ethernet cord, the power, internet and wifi icons all light up (green, green, blue), but accessing the router through wifi or ethernet results in a connection, but no internet.

Check your Internet setting on the router:

        Go to the router.

        Select the Advanced tab.

        Select Setup.

        Select Internet Setup.

Make sure that the Internet IP is set to Dynamic.

Make sure DNS is set to Automatic.

Make sure Router MAC address is set to Use Default.

Hi Apply if any changes were made.

My router is different so you may have to fill in the gaps.

Wrong forum.  Your model is (was) probably in the list on the forum
for the R6xxx family, which has been disabled:

          https://community.netgear.com/t5//bd-p/home-wifi-routers-r6000-series

You're in what's probably the most appropriate forum available now.

    > Today, setup Spectrum modem, [...]

Not a very detailed description of anything.  Maker?  Model?  Is it
    really a (plain) "modem" or a modem+router?

    > [...] connected the router and nothing can connect to it via wifi or
    > ethernet.

When you do what, exactly?  "nothing can" is not a useful problem
description.  It does not say what you did.  It does not say what
happened when you did it.  As usual, showing actual actions with their
actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful
    than vague descriptions or interpretations.

    > [...] Through ethernet, running diagnostic says IP configuration is
    > not valid.

       Which "diagnostic", "running" on what?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Observe/report the
    states of the LED indicators.

You should be able to connect a computer to a LAN Ethernet port on
the R6100, with the R6100 connected to nothing else (except its power
adapter), and use a web browser to talk the management web site of the
R6100, as shown in the User Manual.  If that works, _then_ try
connecting its WAN/Internet port to something on your (unspecified)
    "Spectrum modem".

The modem is a technicolor dpc3216. By diagnostics, i meant the windows diagnostics for trying to find and resolve network issues. The issue is that even though I can see and connect to the wifi network on any device (phone, laptop, tablet), it will say no internet access. I've tried resetting the modem, resetting the router, and both at the same time and factory resetting the router, all result in no internet over wifi. I just tried connecting to the router without the ethernet connection to the modem and i still can't access the routerlogin.net ( connected through ethernet) I've tried other ethernet ports and a different laptop, same problem can't connect to routerlogin, browser just says cannot find site
