help...

I haven’t used my Netgear AC1600 for 1.5 years and I want to use it as a wireless access point. I am not able to change the settings (I can login) but it just says server IP address could not be found. I was able to squeeze in one little change but it really won’t let me do anything. I’ll be able to get into the page and then it won’t refresh when I apply changes. I called Netgear and they wanna charge me $150 to update the security and will be working again. WTF.

Anyone have this issue of not being able to change settings? Netgear is the best.

How do I change my NETGEAR router to AP mode? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

    Then there is the manual.

AC1600 is not a reliable guide to model number. Many devices come with an AC tag, but it is essentially a label that Netgear, and other brands, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds.

Look on the router for the label that says "Model Number"

    Visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

Check the section in the manual Use the Router as a Wireless Access Point or something along the same lines. (The exact wording may depend on which AC1600 you own.)

Your router may date back to 2105. Rare is the brand that offers free lifetime support for what is essentially an inexpensive consumer product. Even Netgear offers support at far less then $150.

    How about $49.99

    This place is free.

  • When you switch it to AP mode, you'll have to log into the primary router (which is?) to find out what IP address its assigning to the netgear and use that address to access it. Have you done that?

An alternative to that cumbersome process is to look for the IP address if the wifi from the router.

Even better, install the desktop genie for your PC.

Be warned, it is in a RAR file that you have to unpack.

This will then offer a network map showing the IP addresses of attached devices. With luck there will even be a clickable link to your AP.
