Help with setup older router as acess point/extender

I am trying to set up a Netgear N600 wireless dual band router WND3400 as an acess point or extended wireless.

I want to put this router out in the RV which is close t my wireless cameras.  I know how to access the router and have an ethernet cable connected to a seperate laptop not connected to the internet.

I have read and see on youtube and doc but this router doesn't have what netgear doc say to bridge.

The docs say click avanced/advanced setup/wireless bridge...there i no wireless bridge in the router menu.

Does anyone know/have step by step insructions on how to get this to work?

I did set up a different ssid and password  for this router..and I think to uncheck DHCP and don't know what to do after this and how this router connects to the camera that are using my main computer router's SSID and password.

  • Problem with this is that if the laptop doesn't get a signal in the RV, neither will the router. RVs are big faraday cages in that they're made from metal. Which does a great job of blocking wifi.

If you look at most rv's, they have some type of external antenna setup to get a connection into the RV. Whether its a cellular connection or a router with some type of internal/external broadcast ability.

I'm guessing that this is the WNDR3400, which comes in three versions between 2010 and 2014.

I see no indication that your ancient router supports access point mode.

It may work as a "wireless bridge", but that depends on connecting to a router that supports that mode. Few do.

Read the manual for your device.

    Visit the support pages:

    Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

Check the section in the manual Wireless Repeating (Also Called WDS).
