How to get iphone to select strongest signal when using EX5000 Extender

I recently added a Netgear AC1200 WIFI Range Extender to my network (WNDR3400v2).  Unfortunately it does not appear that my Apple devices (iphone 11, Ipad, macbook) will automatically move to the strongest available signal if I move around the house.  Looking for suggestions on whether there is a reliable way to accomplish, as my internet reseach has returned mixed results on whether or even if this is possible on apple devices.

    Hi dwally,

    Good day!

    Welcome to NETGEAR Community!

First of all, we do apologize for the inconvenience of not getting back to you immediately due to the backlog in the system. Do you have other devices aside from Apple devices? If yes, do they have the same behavior? In theory, any wireless device which has been connected to a wireless network before should recognize it and will connect automatically as long as you are within range of that wireless signal. Was it working before using your extender?

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need further assistance.

Connecting to the network is not the issue. However if I’m working on the second floor of my home, I want to connect to the Extended signal, because it’s strongest. But if I move to the lower level where my main router is located, I’d rather use the main network versus the extended signal, since the main is stronger on that level. I’m trying to determine if that can be done automatically without having to change to the other network manually. Thanks.

        Hi dwally,

Thank you for your response. Yes, that is possible if your extender has Mesh capability. What is the exact model of your extender?
