Internet LED amber and some devices work - others do not

Hi,

I am trying to find a solution for a “Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (Primary DNS Server)" error.

This somehow seems to be related to the Internet LED on my Netgear router staying amber. The funny thing is though that this only impacts two laptops – the kindle is fine and has no problem and also the kindle fire stick which is tuned into the router has no problem and streams everything at a good speed.

I would really appreciate any ideas as to why the laptops struggle and also how to fix this.

Many thanks in advance!

Peter

  • Sorry for the delay but....

I found the problem after many attempts, taking the router to a friend's house and trying it there etc.

The unit was faulty! Now with a new router everything is back to normal and I am very grateful for your help and patience.

    Regards,

    Peter

push reset on router and power cycle modem

If you reply you might include the make and model of the modem and model # of the router

      Hi,

Thank you for the response. I was at work when i wrote the post.

The router is a R6300 and the modem is the VirginMedia Super Hub which is also a Netgear product.

I tried the reset button and power cycling the modem but without any luck.

Thank you and all the best,

      Peter

        Hi @PeterH1976,

        1. Is the VirginMedia Super Hub a modem-router combo?

        2. If yes, is it also broadcasting it's own wireless signal?

        3. Are the laptops connected to the Wi-Fi of the R6300 or the VirginMedia Super Hub?

        Regards,

        Dexter
