Invalid R6300v2 firmware R6300v2-V1.0.4.8_10.0.77
I have downloaded the Zip file, and have let the Genie download and try to upload the router. The Zip method unzips the file, and the file type reads "Recovered file fragments". The extension is "Chk". The size is 12.9 MB. The error message is "Firmware file is incorrect. Please get the firmware file again and make sure it is the correct firmware for this product." Did this several times. I let the Genie do it. Genie says there is a more current firmware vesion. I let the Genie do it and get "Invalid Firmware". I have read threads of invalid firmware for earlier vesions. I do not know what "brushed" refers to or the "DD-WRT" procedures. Why doesn't NetGear have the correct files? So how do I upgrade the firmware? Thanks in advance for anyone out there. :-)
Hi Southpaw2,
1. Does the issue persist when you bypass the router and connect straight to the modem?
2. Please make sure that the ports are forwarded if there are any. You can contact the manufacturer to verify.

First check that you have the correct firmware for your hardware. There are different flavours of the R6300.
What is the current firmware?
This may be one of those devices where you need to get an intermediate firmware before it will apply the latest. There have been about a dozen versions of the firmware for the R6300v2. Maybe you are trying to leap too far in one go.
The whole library is here:

Have you tried letting the router get the new firmware through the browser interface? See page 87 of the manual.

I did use the browser interface as stated originally. I just returned the item to the vendor. I had a through wire speed of 80 MBps and the router would only provide 35 to 45 MBps at best WiFi. Thanks for your help. Hope someone else can benefit from this. I'm done.

Hi,
I'm also receiving same error 'This firmware file is incorrect! Please get the firmware file again and make sure it is the correct firmware for this product. ' Last version I've on router is V1.0.3.48_10.0.85.
Do I need to install all upgrade after my last version or should I upgrade to latest?

I'm having trouble using obitalk on my router. It disconnected every time I call or receive calls. I saw several posts for download firmware and was wondering if it needs to upgrade and resolve the problem. My Netgear R6300 router is up to V1.0.2.78_1.0.58. I look forward to hearing from you.
