Low speed issue with N600 WNDR3400 router and Arris 6141 modem

I have a Comcast Xfinity connection that gives me download speeds of close to 70 Mbps. With a wired connection directly from the modem I get the high speeds .However, with the WiFi connection through the router I get the download speed (~25 Mbps). If I use the same ethernet cable to connect the router to the computer, speed varies from 60-70 mbs

1.I tried changing the MTU settings(1500,1492,1460,1430,1400,1392), but it didn't help.

2. Internet Access QoS or Bandwidth Control enabled- turn  off.

3.WPA2 wireless security

4.disable any USB drives, port filtering, port forwarding and keyword blocking features.

5.The firmware version seems to be the latest: V1.0.0.52_1.0.81

6.factory reset

I tried all these things to no avail.I still don't get any improvement in speeds.

  • What Wi-Fi device(s) do you have? If it's a smartphone, please provide the model number. If it's a PC/laptop, please provide the model number of the Wi-Fi adapter.

Do you have WMM enabled? If must be enabled for higher Wi-Fi speeds.

Did you try changing Wi-Fi channels?

Iphone 4s and toshiba,WMM is on.I tried changing the channels. It showed no significant change in the speed.thx

  • IIRC, the 4S is a single dream, 2.4 GHz only, 802.11n Wi-Fi device. As such, the best case link speed is about 72 Mbps, with a real world throughput in the low to mid 30s Mbps. However, Netgear routers are configured to use long preamble, so max link speed drops to 65 Mbps, with a corresponding drop in throughput. Note: This assumes 20 MHz channels, which the router will use when other Wi-Fi networks are nearby.

All this translates to say that 25 Mbps is probably not that unreasonable. You may eek out a little extra speed by switching to short preamble, but that's about all you can expect out of a 4S.

i have a iphone 6s,too,i cant get high speed,I have a Comcast Xfinity connection that gives me download speeds of close to 70 Mbps. With a wired connection directly from the modem I get the high speeds .However, with the WiFi connection through the router I get the download speed (~25 Mbps).how to do it?

  • With a 6S, you should connect to the 5 GHz network. It should be able to hit 70 Mbps in the same room as the router.
