Model AC 1200 R6260 warranty scam

I purchased this back in January of this year, device didnt work and i spent hours on phone with tech support to get it to work.. Tech support never said I needed to call every 3 months to keep device working properly.. Come today i get home from work and nothings working, intermittent connection, unable to keep signal connected or access the app without losing siginal, so cant attempt to check if firmware is up to date.. Called tech support and they wont honor the hardware warranty if I dont pay for software support first and told me at was my fault for not called every 3 months (which as I mentioned before no one ever told me before today).. I know its not my internet because I could hardwire my internet to devices using my spectrum modem if I dont use the router. even plugging devices directly into the router wont let me connect to the internet, so I know its a hardware issue and not a software issue since the 3 green lights wont stay solid

  • Just wanted to give a quick update that I know its hardware issue and not software because when I unplug the cord from my modem to the netgear router the internet connection lights stay on telling me its sending false signals so netgear can try and charge me for tech support even though its failing hardware issue

Now I know they are trying to scam me, I called back a second time and hadnt plugged the internet back into the router and they told me they could see that it is connected and then proceeded to tell me I needed to hold the reset in with a paper clip and unplug and plug the power back in 20 time..
  • Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for General Router products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with older routers and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this router forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

Two things. Who did you call? If it was a number you found on a web search, it wasn't Netgear.

Netgear does not post phone numbers you can call.  But there are crooks out there who create sites that look like Netgear and will lead you to scam merchants who will demand money. They may also ask for access to your PC. Do that and they can wreak havoc.

On the warranty, you don't need to pay to start the RMA process.

How do I request a Return Material Authorization (RMA)? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

By the way, feel free to trot off to another section if you have the inclination and time to spare. But it isn't necessary. Your question fits in here as well as anywhere.

I called the number that was on the registration page when I registered my product, its the same number that was listed on the BBB website for netgear as well. Same number thats on the my.netgear website under contact us section.

Also, you say they dont post phone numbers, but the link you provided Literslly says to call tech support and provides the number.
