Modem or not modem this is the question

Hi there on the coming Friday I got a technician from Xfinity to install my internet and I bought this router. My question is do I need a modem also or this is just enough to access the web?

I know less than zero about these stuff and my doubts are due to the fact that on the box amongst the system requirements it is stated: - Broadbad (cavle, DSL) Internet service and modem with Ethernet connection.

If it is how I suspect, a modem is needed, I am gonna return it. Do you guys have a suggestion on what to buy in the same price range.

Thanks in advance for your help

  • Thank you everyone for the time dedicated to this silly question, I returned the Netgear router and bought an Arris cable modem and router.

Thanks again and have a good summer.

Your "this router" is an R6120?

What you need depends on what you're getting from Comcast.  If that
is standard cable-TV Internet service, then you probably need a cable-TV
modem.  This could be a simple cable modem for use with a separate
router like an R6120, or you could get a modem+router ("gateway") to do
the whole job, removing the need for a separate router like an R6120.

Is Comcast supplying any equipment (like, say, a modem or
    modem+router)?

When it takes a technician to install your Internet, that often entails delivering a modem, or whatever box you need to let on to the internet.

Whether you need, or can use, another router with that modem depends on the box they install.

Have you asked them what they supply? The answer will help you to decide if you need anything else.

The questions to put to them include the type of internet (DSL, cable or something else) and the type of box they deliver. Is it a simple modem? Or is it a modem-router? Will it provide wifi? (If you want that.)

Thanks guys for your input, my bad I should have given more info.

What I get from Comcast is only Internet without any device. I think the ac1200 is not the device I need, isn't it?

An R6120 is a router, not a modem+router, so, by itself, it's not all
        you need.

           Still true.
