problem updating firmware for AC1200

I am having two problems with my Netgear AC1200 router.

Problem 1:

I have been unable to do any updates, firmware or software, to my router for months now. I cannot even get to the proper page. I get to the website that tells me that the the seriel # I put in is not correct. I am using an ethernet to connect the router to my computer. It works most of the time.

Problem 2: Trying to get a good wi-fi signal to the bedroom to listen to any poscast on my Amazon 10 tablet. Bedroom is only 15 feet from the computer. Every podcast I try will either start buffering in the middle of the cast, or restarts back at least 30 seconds, or the volume goes from low to loud and back to low. And it will do all 3 while listening to the same podcast.

I thought the problem might be my Wi-Fi connection. But this problem started only 3 months ago. And I have been listening to podcasts at night for almost a year.

  • 1. What modem/gateway do you have?

    2. Do you know what firmware is on it?

    3. If you can't get into the router via the password recovery option, you can always factory reset the router and reinstall it. That'd get you back to dafaults to get you back in. to reset, push and hold reset for 7-15 seconds while its powered on.

I don't know the firmware. Everytime I try to get into Netgear's site to install firmware. the 192.168.1.1 site comes up. I enter "admin" then "password". It then takes me to the "http://192.168.1.1/401_recovery.htm" site. I enter my Seriel # & it will tell me "not valid" or something stupid like that. I am reading the exact #s off of the label. This site has never worked for me.

Sorry I haven't answered this line but other things going on & I have not been able to check this site in a long time. It is better to send a response to my email address.

        Hi Bootaz,

        Welcome to NETGEAR Community!

First of all, we do apologize for the inconvenience of not getting back to you immediately due to the backlog in the system. Are you unable to access the router's page on all devices? If only one  computer that cannot access the routerlogin.net, please try using a different web browser. You may try resetting the router by holding the reset button for a full minute then unplug the power cord for 10 seconds. After that using a device wired or wireless( make sure you are connected on the wireless network), open a web browser, it should redirect you to the setup page.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need further assistance.

        Regards,

I have done a factory reset on the router at least 3 times.
