R6300 firmware

I received a sketchy email that supposedly came from Netgear saying I "may need a firmware update and it gave me a site to go to and downloard it.  It didn't give me the firmware update version and it came from an address called "security@e.netgear.com.

A few computer savvy people I know told me they weren't sure what the e. could be for and it likely was bogus and to just delete it.  Did anyone else get this emal, I can't believe a reputable company would send out such a childishly worded email that was vague on details.

Find more-savvy people.  "<anything>.netgear.com" does not indicate a
problem; "netgear.com.<anything>" would.  But the "From:" field on a
    message can't be trusted.

       It's Netgear, so no contradiction.

Thanks for quick and thoughtful response.  Sounds like email and firmware may be legitimate, and the Company just isn't very polished in how they communicate.

      • A good way to deal with that email, which comes up often and is legitimate, is to visit the support pages for your hardware. Then you can look to see if there is new firmware. Many people prefer applying these update manually as it gives them more control and is less liable to fall over.

Be warned that that is a blanket email that may or may not apply to you. There may not be new firmware.
