R6400v2 AC1750 with N300extender speed issues

Complained to Comcast about speed issues. Comcast replaced their modem to increase speed to 600mps. Comcast wifi from their modem shows up to 300 mps but limited range . My Netgear router has anywhere from 20 to 40 mps  depending on the computer, phone or proximity to the extender or base unit. what is causing are these losses??

I do not have any wifi test equipment.----it doesn't take special equipment. A phone for wireless and a pc/laptop/mac for hardwired testing. you can use speedtest app or speedtest.com  for hardwired.

The Comcast modem is their newest and suppossed to be for 600mps which I measured on my phone next to it as actually between 300 and 400.-----phones are an indicator but not perfect. its why you want to test over hardwired.  I do not know how to measure the hardwired speed into my router or into their modem.-----connect to them, then test using the speedtest app or site.

one thing to keep in mind. 2.4ghz is significanly slower than 5ghz. and then the 2.4ghz speed is reduced going through an extender. 20-40mbps isn't an unexpected speed out of an EX2700 because its an older 2.4ghz based device.

  • 1. What modem did comcast install?

    2. What speeds do you get hardwired into the modem?

    3. What speeds do you get hardwired into the router?

    4. What actual extender are you using? N300 is a speed, not a model.

    5. Firmware on your router and extender?

    6. What device are you testing on?

How are you testing? 2.4ghz is going to be significantly slower directly from the router and even slower on the N300 because it has to receive and retransmit. so its 2.4ghz speed is going to be roughly half of what the router is.

Cannot answer most of your questions as the hardware and install was done by Comcast. All speed tests were done using the xfinity diagnostic on line support tool. Used an iphone10 , a Samsung 8 and an Acer laptop. The extender is an WN 3000RP v3. Installed 2018

      • Not trying to be snide but I can't help you with minimal info. the questions I asked can be answered with a little bit of looking at labels and actual testing/research.

Its tough to tell you whats going on with incomplete information.
