Router doesnt recognize external USB hard drive

Ive had this router for over a year and everything was fine until I recently had to reinstall windows 10.  The router and my internet connection works fine as does my wireless printer, (though Ive had to reset the router it a few times when I was unable to access the web interface due to issues with Genie).

The Negear router web interface recognizes the extgernal drive, but the Genie application and the ready share vault can't connect to it and I can't access it through the windows network.

Any suggestions...thanks :-)

  • Hi PSE,

Thank you for providing the details.

If you have the anniversary update (1607) installed for your Windows 10, some users reported that the steps below worked for them:

    1. Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage Windows Credentials

    2. Add a Windows Credential

    3. Enter the directions to the router and the router's user name and password. See example below:

    \\readyshare

    admin

    password

    4. Click on OK

    5. Check to see if you are able to access the drive via Windows Explorer

    Hi PSE,

    1. What is the firmware version of the router?

    2. Are you able to access the ReadySHARE drive via other methods (http and/or ftp)?

    3. Have you tried using another computer?

    4. Have you tried using another storage device (flash drive)?

      Hi Dexter,

      1. Firmware: V1.0.4.2_10.1.10  (I tried an update and it said its current)

      2. I don't know how to access the drive via HTTP, Ditto for FTP. (Is it the same IP address as the router?)

      3. Don't have another computer

      4. I just tried a USB stick and it doesnt connect with that either.

BTW, I also checked wheter this Seagate grive is on your compatible list and it is.  I turned on Network discovery and file and printer sharing in windows settings.  As I mentioned this all worked fine before the windows reinstall, though I do recall haveing to contact tech support to get it working.

Readyshare does show up in my widows network in windows explorer.  When I ckick on it I get this error message "\\READYSHARE is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator...  A specified logon session does not exist.  It may already have been terminated."

      Thank you for your help.

      Paul
