Router Mode
I've got a several year old Netgear C3000 modem/router and somehow inadvertently set it to router mode which of course disabled the modem mode. So now I can't connect to the intenet to repair it. I have rebooted/reset it several times theoretically to factory default settings but when I restart the unit it is still only in router mode and not back to a combo modem router which is what I thought would occur. So I can't access the internet to go to the router login page to begin the fix. Any thoughts how I can retrieve the modem component on this device. Thanks.
Thanks for haning in there on this one! Regarding page 7, the item labeled "WiFi On/Off button" has an LED adjacent to it that used to be lit when Netgear was performing its wireless router function. It no longer illuminates. I have unplugged the device for 30 minutes, I have pressed the on/off switch at the bottom of the unit as shown on page 9 of the manual. Each time the unit comes back up, it is still lacking both the illuminated wireless LED and of course it does not perform the wireless function. All I wanted to accomplish was to return the unit to its factory default settings which as I recall had the unit operating as both a mofdem and router.
I'd like to be able to do that but in the meantime, I've attached a spare router to the C3000 and it works, so now the C3000 is acting as solley a modem while the attached router does the rest.
That's the best I can do. Happy to be told what I'm doing wrong, but I suppose it's possible that the router portion of the C3000 is shot. Thanks again for your effort.

number, and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look
for "Change the Router Mode". So far as I can tell, a C3000 does not
have a router-only mode, where its modem is disabled, but if you can
find one, then I'm open to enlightenment. This whole problem-diagnosis thing might work better if you'd stick
to actual actions and observations, and put less effort into analysis.
Especially if it's faulty, and leads you to things like "router[-only]mode".
In the words of the philosopher Williams, "If you don't think too
good, don't think too much."> [...] when I restart the unit it is still only in router mode and not
> back to a combo modem router which is what I thought would occur. [...]
You determined this how, exactly? (Actual actions and observations?)> [...] So I can't access the internet to go to the router login page to
> begin the fix. [...]First, "can't" is not a useful problem description. It does not say
what you did. It does not say what happened when you did it. As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.Second, if "go to the router login page" means using a web browser
with a URL like "http://routerlogin.net", then that's the management web
site on your own modem+router, not some outside-world web site. You
don't need an Internet connection to talk to your own modem+router. See
the User Manual.
What is your goal here? What, exactly, did you do? What, exactly, happened when you did it?

Also, in the User Manual, look for the LED descriptions and
"Troubleshoot".- McDonoughAspirant
The goal is to reactivate the wifi mode on my C3000 modem/router. I have rebooted the system several times theoretically back to factory settings, but the wireless component is not reactivated. Nothing happens when I press the wifi button next to the light that would be illuminated if wifi were working. I’m obviously a novice at this – but I did read the user manual and do note this unit can be used as an access point. But now all I seem to have is modem capability without wireless.
> [...] I have rebooted the system several times theoretically back to

"reset" affects the settings. Again, what, exactly, did you do?> [...] but the wireless component is not reactivated.
Which part of "Evidence?" was unclear?
> [...] Nothing happens when I press the wifi button next to the light
> that would be illuminated if wifi were working.[...]What does Netgear call these things? "press" how (long)?
> [...] I'm obviously a novice at this [...]
Ignorance is often curable, but the less you know, the more important
accurate, detailed, precise descriptions become. (And the less value
your analysis may have.)
> [...] I did read the user manual [...]Not much evidence for that, either. See "Figure 2. Modem router
front view", page 7. Which "the wifi button" is "next to" which "the
light"?
