Slow wifi signal since modem switch
Good Morning, My WNDR3400v3 Has been functioning fine until 3days ago since I purchased it 1 1/2 yrs ago . My issue now is it isn't putting out like it was. Speed test are really different. (Dramatic difference If I run a test on my cell.) Direct modem connection; 115.76Dl 11.8 Ul Router linked; 56.62DL 11.80 UL Spectrum just replaced my old modem a few days ago because of home phone issues. I now have a different model altogether. ARRIS; Model: TG1682G Could the new/used modem be incompatible with my router? Or do I need to reset my router to the modem?( new ip pswd and other info...) I need the speed for my wireless security(mostly) and the other devices in my home.(2 cell 1 Tablet)
Hi trruckersmom,
Are you still experiencing the issue?
If yes:
1. Have tried resetting the router after the update?
2. What is the exact firmware version of the router?
3. What speed are you getting wired from the router?
4. What speed are you getting wired from the ISP's modem?
Regards,
Dexter

At the router or modem for the hard wired speed?
if at the router you are doing good for the router.
Hard wired 115.76mbs download, 11.8 upload.
Wifi 56.62 download, 11.80 upload may be the 5 ghz band you did not said.
What were you speeds before the new modem since the tg1682g is also a router as well was the router in the modem bridged or lift as a router?
At this speed for the internet you are at the limit this router can handle since the lan and wan(internet) port are limited to a 100mb cap by the router its self.
If speed is important for your wireless you may need think upgrading the router to faster standard router like an AC standard router. Your wifi speed will increase from the router to matched the hardwired speed at lease it did for me on the 5 ghz band hard to say in you case as your devices will limit you by their limits. As for the 2.4 not as fast but longer range again the devices you own will limit you.

Thank you for responding back. I apologize for taking so long.

Yes

Hard directly from the modem to the PC tower
Wifi 56.62 download, 11.80 upload may be the 5 ghz band you did not said.
It will only connect with the 2.4 GHz. It says no connection in the geni and is only connecting in the Guest under the 2.4ghz.

The dl was no lower than 75 and upl was the same.
The tech who put it in said it was only being used as a modem after I informed him I had my own router. I've logged into the modem and its showing in the basic setup that the wireless 2.4 &5ghz are enabled. I'm not sure if it's netgear or thiers.

William10a, Could this be a part of my issue?
WNDR3400v3-intermittently-drops-connection-to-internet/m-p/1472936#M67429WNDR3400v3 - intermittently drops connection to internet
Have had this router a while now without any problems whatsoever. Since purchasing a smart TV, the modem has been dropping the connection at random intervals. Tried firmware update - no improvement. The only other thread I found about this mentions that the device might need restarting with 'heavy usage'. The device has now been restarted 50 more times in the past few weeks than the entire year before it. So, is this alleged heavy usage the likely culprit? If so, is a new router the only solution?
