Slow WIRED speeds with N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router

This question is about WIRED speeds as opposed to wireless speeds.

This router is being used in a home office situation. This home office's cable Internet connection is 500 Mb. When one of our computers connects directly to the cable modem we always get 500 Mb download speeds. Yet when we connect to this router, those speeds drop in half (on average).

Often times, in fact, speeds will drop to 100 Mb or lower. Yet each and every time we disconnect from the router and plug directly into the cable modem we are back up to 500 Mb.

Suggestions?

  • Unfortunately, LAN ports can't be fixed by firmware.

Therefore, it's time to get a new router.

    Hi Husky86

    Welcome to the community!

Is it the same on all ports from the router?

What's the exact model number of your NETGEAR router?

If the manual of your router states that the LAN should received 10/100/1000 then definitely, it's a bad port.

Did you try swapping the Ethernet cables?

Are you using the same computer when you do the test?

      Hi Elaine,

      The model number is WNDR4300.

New cables were purchased about 3-4 weeks ago. No difference. Switching out the cables — changing them up with respect to individual ports — doesn’t make any difference either.

If you have any additional thoughts, please pass them along.

      Thanks!
