Smart WiFi AC1750 R6400 ACCESS CONTROL SLOW DOWN BANDWITH BIG TIME!
Hi, new here.
SYSTEM:
WIN 11 HOME
CYBERPOWER PC INTEL 12 CPU
32GB
12GB VRAM
ROUTER:
Smart WiFi AC1750 R6400
LATEST FIRMWARE INSTALLED V1.0.4.128_10.0.104
MODEM
MOTOROLA 3.1
ISP COMCAST
1GB DOWN 25Mbs UP (advertised)
Speedtest.net Getting 4-500Mbs DOWN 24Mbs UP
ISSUE:
Just installed router 11-14-23
Before Access Control turned on getting above rate.
with AC turned on "Block all new devices from connecting" I can only get 150-200Mbs DOWN 23Mbs UP max.
When I turn-off AC and apply, still get low rates, until I reboot modem, then I get 4-500Mbs DOWN 24Mbs UP.
Any ideas what's going on?
Thanks,
Mick
You're wanting an AC device?
Not an AX device?
What are you using it for that you need access controls? You can also check on amazon for netgear renewed devices.

Which one?

Wifi? Wired?
Access controls, parental controls, traffic monitoring, and Qos all take traffic monitoring.
the R6400 is a rather anemic gigabit router and if you enable those services, it will slow it down.
It isn't recommended on devices with over 250mbps.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
Hmm...well I suspect there are no work arounds with configuration changes etc..
Looks like I either live with it (without AC and lower bandwidth), or upgrade to a another router with greater capacity etc...
BTW...your comment about QaS enable was spot on as it had the same result on lower bandwidth as AC enabled.
Turning off AC and QaS got me back to 5-600Mps after a reboot of the modem...
Can you recommend a Netgear router which might accomodate that increased bandwidth with AC and Block new divices and QaS.
Thank again...
Mick

1. AC turned on with "Block all new devices..." (only accessible with AC turned on....
2. Tested using speedtest.net
3. Wired -1GB ethernet through switch...
Any ideas?
Thanks for responding...

Disable access control?
or upgrade to a newer router with a more capable processor for your speeds
