USB drive not appearing on R6300

I'm trying to get USB drive attached to our R6300 router. The USB indicator light on the router won't even light up. I've tried three USB drives already. Does anyone know how to get this thing to recognize a device? The drives are allegedly compatible devices (Kingston thumb drive and a WD MyBook) 

 

Router details:

Model: R6300 (pretty sure this is a v1)

Firmware: V1.0.2.78_1.0.58

    Hi Cmmiles,

     

    1. Has it worked before?

    2. Does the issue persist on both the USB ports (2.0 at the back and 3.0 o the side)?

    3. To confirm, do the USB storage devices work when connected straight to a computer?

    4. Have you tried resetting the router?

    5. Have you tried checking the router UI if the USB device/s appear under ReadySHARE?

    6. You can try updating to a later firmware version (1.0.2.80) and do a factory reset to check if the issue persists.

      • No, this is the first time I've tried connecting a drive

      2. Does the issue persist on both the USB ports (2.0 at the back and 3.0 o the side)?

      • Neither USB port would recognize a drive was there.

      3. To confirm, do the USB storage devices work when connected straight to a computer?

      • Yes, each works on a desktop computer in the house

      4. Have you tried resetting the router?

      • Yes

      5. Have you tried checking the router UI if the USB device/s appear under ReadySHARE?

      • The UI like in the mobile app?

      6. You can try updating to a later firmware version (1.0.2.80) and do a factory reset to check if the issue persists.

      • I will try that now and let you know how that goes.

        Hmmmm, I updated the firmware and added the external back to it and still no drive.
