WNDR3700v2 Router Vulnerability

So i got a WNDR3700v2 with latest firmware at the moment and I noticed theres a vulnerability in it but no more updates are being made for it. Is it possible to avoid the vulnerability if I use a very strong wifi password and router settings password along with disabling remote management, readyshare, dlna, upnp, and other things and make the router be just a simple router with a firewall and no fancy features. Why I ask is the router been working great after 5 years which is much longer than the average router now days. If not does the netgear wndr4300v2 have any known vulnerabilitys that hasnt been fixed.
