WNR2000V3 img file doesn't update

When I attempt to update my WiFi router, I download the file that shows on the Netgear website, it is a *.img file which the manuals says should work. Alas, it does

not. As you can see below, it says the file format to use is a *.chk file. So, just in case, I copied the *.img file and changed the extension to *.chk, but that didn't do any good either. Can someone please help me get the update file so I can update my router -- PLEASE.

Well, that's embarrassing. My router was replaced and I forgot about it. It is an R6300V2 and I have updated my router. Thanks so much for reminding me to do the obvious . . . check the model.

    Thanks,

    Donna

Are you sure that you have the hardware version WNR2000V3?

The firmware for the WNR2000V2 is a .chk file. (No one ever accused Netgear of being logical.) And you cannot use V3 firmware on a V2 device.

      • At least the router didn't manage to install the wrong firmware. That would have been much more embarrassing .... and expensive
