2.4 Ghz much slower than 5Ghz

The router is R6400v2, AC1750

ISP: Cox with 1Gbps plan

Actual speed from modem: Lan:600-700 Wifi: 300-400

Router Lan and 5Ghz wifi is about the same as modem, but 2.4Ghz wifi I'm only getting 80-90+, never pass 100mbps.

All speed are tested on laptop and android phone more than 5 times per.

Traffic meter is off, QoS is on because it actually help me achieve the current speed otherwise it will be below 50 on wifi for both band.

Modem turn on Bridge mode so wouldn't interfere with router's wifi.

What else I can do to help boost the 2.4ghz speed or this is how it suppose to be?

  • Hey there.

2.4 GHz is will give you much slower speeds than the 5G.  You can look up the reasons why, but that is the system functioning correctly.

As Qyooo says, 2.4 GHz is, as the name suggests, slower then 5 GHz.

These two bands trade off speed and range, with 5 GHz being faster but over a shorter range.

I chip in only to say that the speed of any wifi device depends on the wifi client. So some 2.4 GHz devices will be faster than others.

It might be worth a bit of background reading.
