Access a AP configured router using Nighthawk? (R6400, R6700v3)

I have a router (R6400) set up to work with a second router (R6700v3) configured as an AP. Nighthawk software sees the AP as an attached device but I can't figure out how to use the Nighthawk application software to manage the AP. Can the Nighthawk application deal with accessing multiple routers (configuredas router or AP)?

  • Ok. That's what I figured...it would just be nice to do a quick check using the app vs logging in with the IP (which I do all the time). Thx for confirming...

If your referring to the Nighthawk mobile app, the app only works when the router is in Router mode. No AP mode. You can connect to the AP Mode router using it's IP address and access it's web page there using a web browser on a PC or laptop.

It's really sad that - after all the years since the Nighthawk App was re-born out of the old router discovery utility - that neither the Nighthawk App nor the router Connected Devices does allow to open the matching App (say other Netgear Apps) or simply the Web-Browser to access attached devices like access points, Nighthawk Routers in AP Mode, Nightawk Gaming Switches, printers and many more with an IP address... (same applies to the Orbi App, too). Every average brand router and Mesh system has this feature for decades.

Ya, seems like the mobile apps are more limited to certain things. Not sure why. Possible NG found problems or couldn't make it work right or did and caused other problems. I know for AP mode, there really isn't much need to check on something while in AP mode since theres not much going on in this mode. Maybe one reason why they don't support AP mode in apps. I know I ran into this when I had my Orbi in system in AP mode connected to my XR450 gaming router, Orbi app wouldn't connect. Vice versa as well. Maybe NG is trying to keep things simplistic from there perspective. Who knows. It's there ball games. Were players with out the gameplay info. :smileyfrustrated:
