Best Current Router

Hello. I’m moving into a 1 bedroom apartment. I’ve never had my own router, and the complex is recommending the NETGEAR NightHawk Smart WiFi Router (R6700)-AC1750. I’m not even sure what I need to look for in a router, but in my research I see this is an old router. I would like at least 5g for my phone and for good WiFi in the apartment. I’m not sure what numbers to look for. The TV will not be using this WiFi. It is Direct TV. Currently I have Xfinity services and they have been great, but I’m moving. I don’t have any high tech stuff just a cell and several laptops. Merry Christmas.

The 6700 has 5Ghz support though it's older wifi tech and limited on speed and performanced.

Something to check out would be NGs RAX series of routers or maybe a RS series.

    Might start here first:

Depending on home size as well, you may check into a MESH system if you want more multi source wifi coverage:

Start by selecting the Filter options to help you narrow down something that fits your home and networking needs.

Thanks. It’s a small 1 bedroom apartment. Maybe 500 sg ft. There are walls but just a few.

OK, Try something RAX, maybe a RAX50 or 80 series would work good for you.

How do they deliver the wifi to you?

Routers need a modem to work from. Some apartments have their own "basement" equivalent of a router. That needs some fancy configuration. Ask them if you need to do any to the R6700 to get it t to work.

If you can find one, that would be a dead cheap option that should meet most needs in a small pad.

Just another user with time on their hands.

I appreciate this information. I’m trying to find out more information about what is the apartment’s source. I’m assuming it something like if not xmission. I do have an iPhone 16 and fairly new Mac books so I want to make sure these will run optimally on the WiFi from my router.

If the internet service/modem is not great, even the best router will not help.  I agree with FURRYe38 though, the RAX's are good and in a small place you don't want to oversaturate your wi-fi signal with a setup that overwhelms the signal.
