Connecting R7000 to Arris Surboard by cable - low wifi speeds

I connected my AC1900 Router model R7000 by 50' ethernet cable to my comcast Arris Surfboard.

Comcast put the modem in one corner of the house so it's wifi sn't great on he other side.

The R7000 has a TV, Sonos sytem and Nvida shil connected by ethernet cable to it and allso provides our main wifi signal.

My problen is  - when I first installed it I was getting a wifi signal stregnth  from the R7000 of 250-300Mbps but after a few days it dropped to 70Mbps. I measured the signal from the cable going into the R7000 and it is 400Mbps.

Can anyone shed any light on why the speed drop? Is there a setting I need to tweek?

Thank you for any help.

Simon

Are you connecting to the 2.4ghz or the 5ghz?

2.4ghz is a much slower network.

and the R7000 has smart connect which combines the 2 and allows devices to switch between the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz.

You can try disabling that so you can choose which network to connect it to

Thank you - I seperated thr 5 and 2.4 - phones and tablets use 5 and thermostats lights etc use 2.4.

The wifi download speeds of 70Mbps are on the 5Ghz band - 2.4 gets half of that.

What firmware version are you on?

What speeds do you get hardwired into the r7000?
