d7000 guest network defaulting to 5g
hi
im new so please dont bite.
ive a d7000 and have had issues where i connect to my 2.4 ssid and end up (showing at least) on the 5GHZ. RESOLVED by updating firmware to V1.0.1.66_1.0.1
HOWEVER
it seems the guest network ive created doesnt connect people to the 2.4 (even though the 5 is not active - at least that what i see, also - neither work unless i set both to be visable...though the non active 5 network is not visable (i guess because its not active)
long story short, any guest connects to the visable 2.4 ends up on the non active 5
its a pain as i need to isolate some devices to a seperate network and they dont work properly on a 5GHZ
any ideas people?

Its only after that connection is made that its going to the 5g network, which has a seperate SSID and a different password to connect. If the ring cannot see 5 GHz, then it is hard to see how it can try to connect to the 5 GHz SSID.
Perhaps you mean that the ring software you are using on the (unknown to us) device is trying to latch on to 5GHz. If so, that is down to whatever device you are using, not the router.
If your wifi clients are getting confused, and you can't work out how to get them to play ball, then you could disable (not hide) all 5GHz SSIDs.

Until i updated the firmware yesterday i had the same issue on the non guest networks. where in the 2.4 ghz networks were being ignored.
Again, as I said earlier that is down to the wifi clients. Not the router.
Is there a ring support forum you can consult? It n might cut to the chase more quickly than running around worrying about a blameless router.

Anyone?
is it simply that there is a(nother) leak somewhere that means we cant choose which of the two guest network we connect to? even if one is "disabled"
also whats up with having to turn on broadcast on both?- michaelkenwardGuru - Experienced User

You'll have to wait for people to wake up. We aren't all sitting here ready to pounce on new questions.
It might help if you posted in the appropriate section for your D7000.
By the way, you have posted your message in the section of this community given over to
Nighthawk WiFi Routers. This is easily done, given Netgear's impenetrable community structure.
Your device is a DSL Modem/Router. You might get better replies, and find other answers, over in the appropriate section:
DSL Modems & RoutersThere is a manual for the D7000 somewhere at the end of this link:
>>> D7000 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<
As to your question, what makes you think that the modem router is involved? It is up to wifi clients to decide which wifi source to connect to. Given that 5 GHz is faster than 2.4 GHz, any self respecting wifi client will try to connect to that.
Oh, and "not visible" does not mean "not active".

Thanks Michael,
Sorry if ive posted in the wrong place, im new to this.. if i can move it please let me know and ill do so and thanks for replying.
As i said the 5G guest network its not actually active (no tick in enable guest network). The devices (ring doorbell) ask for a connection / SSID to use when setting them up, they need to be on 2.4 according to ring so Im selecting the guest 2.4 one, its shows in the ring app as it is using the 2.4 one - but the router access control screen shows the device and mac address connected to the G5 SSID.
