Firmware Update
I cannot update the firmware. I have tried everything without success. I am a senior systems analyst, if that will save time as far as getting help goes. Nighthawk takes me in an endless loop. I am having huge issues with my connection consistently dropping. Internet provider is coming out tomorrow but thought I'd also try getting help here. I cannot get it to update the firmware. Might not be the modem causing the issues but I'd like to get updated firmware just to be sure. Thanks
- Netgear deserves my criticism in this particular area just as the ISP does in other areas and I'll tell you why and then I am done with this conversation. I admit that I am a little sensitive for a couple of reasons. 1. Cardiomyopathy isn't fun. I have limited time left on this Earth and don't appreciate it when a vendor like Netgear wastes some of that time.
2. Part of my job involves providing maintenance and support to my end users. As a result I'm overly sensitive to poor communication and misinformation.
I never said that I expected something to be plastered on the box. Don't put words in my mouth. It's not unreasonable for me to expect clear communication in an important area like this.
Netgear took me on a wild goose chase with this firmware issue leading me to believe that it could be updated and taking me around and around in circles. I don't appreciate it. I am smart enough to take extra steps to get the answers I need which is why I'm here in the first place on this forum.
The Nighthawk app led me down a misleading path and I don't appreciate it. I'm not asking for information to be plastered on the box and all of it given to me up front but I do expect a company to provide clear communication and correct information.
The issue has been resolved anyway. The ISP had to spend a significant amount of time replacing some wiring out back and also gave me a substantial credit on my account due to the issues I've been having. They gave me enough credit to buy another piece of equipment and throw this Netgear piece of garbage in the recycling bin. Like I said I don't have very much time left as it is and I don't need to waste time running around in circles in an app that doesn't work as expected.
I'm not a huge fan of the ISP folks by any means. But in this case they win and Netgear loses. I bought a piece of Netgear equipment years ago that also caused me grief and so I definitely learned my lesson and will stay away from this company's products going forward.
I'm highly suspicious now the of the answers I've received here. Seems to be a gang that likes to blame the ISPs for everything and can't be open-minded enough to admit otherwise.
And it's not a new toy by the way and it shows a lack of respect that you would say that. It's an important piece of equipment, not a volleyball. I've gone from thinking you were extremely helpful to realizing you're just another snotty know-it-all who likes to put others down for asking legitimate questions and calling companies out when appropriate. I'm turning off the replies to this and I won't be back and that's directly because of you.

You have the C6250?
There is no firmware update. Cable ISPs don't allow it.
If your firmware is outdated, you cannot manually upgrade your cable modem’s or modem router’s firmware. You must contact your Internet service provider (ISP) to upgrade your firmware.
- buckwormTutorOh wow. Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Not sure what to do. I really don't think my issue is the equipment anyway. There have been a couple of lengthy outages in my area recently and since then I've had consistent service interruptions. ISP folks are coming out today, will see what happens. Thanks again.
- buckwormTutorJust another update on this. Internet service provider is here now they clearly told me they would not control the firmware updates because it's my equipment. Maybe I didn't make that clear in my original post but this is my modem. If I can't find a way to update the firmware then I'm just going to have to switch to something that isn't Netgear.

That's just the ISPs being evil. They want to charge you to rent a modem from them.Firmware updates are in their hands, regardless of who sold it to you.
If an ISP won't roll out firmware for third-party modems, there's a good chance that they won't update their own devices. Many ISPs are staffed by people who have poor technical knowledge. Their default response is "blame the customer".
If I can't find a way to update the firmware then I'm just going to have to switch to something that isn't Netgear. Before you do that, investigate their stand on firmware. They are all the same. Other brands cannot update your firmware. It is an industry thing.
Now you can appreciate why experienced users buy separate modems and routers. Not only do you get a better choice of routers, you get to control the firmware on the bit that matters.
