Help! Nighthawk installation

I have had a ton of issues setting up anything with my internet. This was supposed to make things easier. I bought this Router, because with Fiber Optics, I was told I did not need a Modem. Low and behold, I had to use a Modem to even get a signal. But My computer is not recognizing this router, so I can even set this up. Isn't there supposed to a installation thing that pops up when I first use the router? Nothing has popped up, and the support videos are no longer available. I am trying to get my computer to recognize this router, and it does not even know it is there. Can some one help me?
