How do I change a device name on my network? R8000
It looks like I should be able to change the device name to something meaningful for devices that are not named by the router.
In Netgear Genie, I can change the names but they don't stick.
Using Nighthawk from my phone, I get "Sorry, the action was failed. Please try again." message
I have a new iPhone that is not named. It is named "--".
Is there a way to change that device's name that I haven't found?
Thanks.
Firmware version: V1.0.4.84

Try setting up a IP address reservatoin for the device then edit the name here before saving the setting then applying the change using a PC and web browser on the routers web page under advanced tab/Setup/Lan Setup?

Which Netgear genie is this?
It could be one of several things, the browser interface, a Windows or Mac program for a PC, or a mobile Android/iThing app. Netgear labels them all as genies. Which are you using?
The desktop genie for Windows allows changes that stick.

Model Number R8000Let me clarify the sticking. When I reopen Netgear Genie, the changes to the device names that I made are still there. What I should have said was that they don't propagate to Nighthawk on my iPhone.
Since then I have changed the name of my laptop and that change has been picked up by Nighthawk. I also changed the name of my iPhone. That change has not been picked up by Genie or Nighthawk.
I don't suppose these names are stored on the router or they would be coordinated between Genie and Nighthawk.
The names I change in Genie must be stored on my laptop since they do persist in Genie.
Nighthawk always returns an error when I try to change a device name.
I have to log in to my router to use Genie or Nighthawk. I would like to see these names stored on and retrieved from the router so that they could be coordinated across the apps that I use to access the router.
