I need help installing my Nichthawk X4 R7500 as an acces point
Hi there,
Can anyone please help me! I am a complete noob when it comes to wifi. I have a modum that sends out 2 wifi signals. The problem with this is that it does not reach the top floor of my house. On the top floor there is an internet cable that is connected to the modum.
I have a Nighthawk X4 R7500 as 2nd router (1st one is the router wich also functions as a modum). I want to install it as an acces point. So i followed al the steps that Nighthawk provides to do so with the AP functionallity on the Netgear Genie setup page.
The end result that i want is that the 2nd router (nighthawk) sends out the same wifi signal as the 1st router (modum) but from a different location in my house so i got al the rooms covered.
I als tried to do a manual setup, so i found the IP adres to the 1st router and changed the LAN settings of the 2nd router to the exacpt same IP adres. Then i disabled the DHCP functionallity on the 2nd router (in my opinion this should ensure that the 2nd router sends out the same wifi signal as the 1st). But then i got an error: IP Address is conflicted with WAN IP subnet, please enter again.

Please review the https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/R7500/R7500_UM_22Jan2015.pdf Use the Router as a Wireless Access Point. The IP address for the R7500 in Access Point Mode will be assigned by your first router DHCP server, the same for all wireless clients accessing any WiFi.
You are free in the selection of the SSID (the wireless name) and security config for the primary router and the access point - permitting the involved routers and the AP does allow.
Avoid any strange experimenting with DHCP server and static IP configs. Nightmare predictable.

Thanks! I did try this, but in the end there were still 4 different signals (2x from router 1 and 2 from router 2) i want the nighthawk to send the same 2 wifi networks as the orgininal so this does not seem to work for me.

Did you put the "remote" device into AP (wired to the router) mode as others recommend? Or did you set the two up with a WiFi (bridged) connection.
You don't say what this "modem" is, so who knows how it can work?

What you need is a Mesh system. Tour R7500 does not support this.
You can set up both devices to use the same SSID and passwords (read the manuals), but that isn't going to deliver ,much benefit over two separate SSIDs.
Why do you want "the same 2 WiFi networks"?
Any WiFi clients you use will have to negotiate a connection to whichever source it sees.Only a Mesh system can manage a seamless handover.
Using the same SSID and password can be worse than having two separate networks because the WiFi clients can get confused. The handover isn't likely to be any quicker with the same SSID.
