Netgear r7000p & PS5 speed
Recently purchased a PS5 as well as recent upgrade from Xfinity (Comcast) to 600Mbps internet plan. After running a lot of speed tests on phones, laptops, iPads and PS5, the PS5 is maxing out at 188 Mbps over WifI (5 GHz) and 175 Mbps over LAN (ethernet) connection. On phones and laptops I'm getting 525 Mbps and if I hard wire the PS5 directly to the modem (bypass the router) I'm getting 601 Mbps through the PS5 speed test, so I'm sure the Netgear router is the bottleneck. All the speeds mentioned for the PS5 are through the defalt speed test in Network options of the PS5.
Below are the specs of my internet:
- ISP plan: 600 Mbps download / 20 Mbps upload
- Modem: Arris T25 (DOCSIS 3.1) - https://www.surfboard.com/products/xfinity-subscribers/t25/
- Routher: Netgear Nighhawk r7000P; Firmware version 1.3.1.64
- Router Settings:
1. Disabled QoS
2. Disabled Access Control
3. Disabled Smart Connect
3. Enabled Port Forwarding for ports 80, 443, 1935, 3074, & 3478-3480
4. UPnP is enabled
5. 5 GHZ settings: mode set to "Up to 1625 Mbps" and Transmit Power Control at 100%
Prior to enabling port fowarding the speeds on the PS5 were a little bit slower (125 Mbps) so the the port fowarding did help a little but no where close to the 400 or 500 Mbps I should be getting. Before I purchase another router, as I read many post in Netgear forums regarding the Nighthawk r7000p, is there anything I can do to increase the speeds on the PS5? Lastly, I also own a PS4 (2.4GHz broadband card) and the max speed I'm getting on the 2.4GHz WiFi is 35 Mbps.

- raptor710710AspirantI have the same issue ps5 download speed is 220 mbps vs 480 mbps on my phones and laptop. Same speed wired or wifi. I have spectrum. Has anyone found fix. My ps4 is worse 22 mbps

I'm also having the same issue. I have gigablast with Cox, and everthing would get higher speed. The PS5 will never go higher than 100mbps while using CAT6 cable.

rdsandjs I have the r7000 and I'm having the same issue. My download speed with my old router was 285mbps, but with this new one I'm getting 140mbps. My other devices have faster speeds on wifi. Have you found a solution to this yet? So far I haven't gotten any help from customer service.
- LatinoghostInitiateI ended up getting rid of the r7000p and got me an ASUS router. I get close to gigabyte on all my wired devices inuding my ps5. If you just got yours, return it.
- Mattc0899AspirantHey so I have the same r7000p and I already swapped it out for a new one but still only get 175mbps download and around 100mbps upload if I’m lucky on wired. Checked different cables same thing, all other devices wired and wireless have better speeds, wifi still not overly fast but ok. Even with PS5 being right next to router I still got under 200. If I bypass the router I got 900mbps upload was only 20 but maybe psn was limiting it, but the speed was 4-5 times more. Can you tell me what Asus router you went with? I want to go get one today, I saw a couple say ps5 compatible but which one did you get to have correct speeds?

Unfortunately I never found a solution. Admittedely, my kids are the one who play the PS5 so for the time being I'm just dealing with the 175~MB download speeds. Their online gaming experience has not been negatively impacted. Eventually I'll just replace the router but it works very well for all other devices in our home.

i just signed up for frontier fiber with 500mbps up and down, but am also finding that my r7000p is limiting download to 220 and upload at ~300, for both direct ethernet and wifi
i had frontier come out and check the speed directly into both their handheld meter and into my computer from the fiber ONT modem and it was getting close to 600mbps in both directions, so the r7000p is the bottleneck culprit
i have been running firmware version V1.0.0.44_1.0.27, so i upgraded to the most recent v1.3.3.148 and my speed went DOWN - download went to 175 and upload went to 200 - so i went back to V1.0.0.44_1.0.27 and my speeds went back to 220 down and 300 up, still less than half of what i should be getting (and what the router is purportedly capable of)
someone mentioned an asus, i may try one to see, but there is no doubt in my mind that the limitation is the r7000p - wish netgear would update the firmware to increase speeds instead of making them worse!
