NETGEAR router is not found or is not supported.

Hello guys, I'm having a hard time right now. I bought the NightHawk AC1900 R7000 to install a VPN on it. I installed the VPN showed in this video '' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVLQzsCxwgI '' and it worked for 3 months. Now I tried to uninstall it so I could come back to the factory settings but I didn't do it the good way since nothing is working anymore. I tried uninstalling it by upgrading the firmware on 192.162.0.1 DD-WRT setup page by installing an upgrade firware of NETGEAR (R7000-V1.0.7.2_1.1.93.chk) . After doing that, I wasn't able to go back on this website. Everytime I write 192.168.0.1 and try to enter it, it says it took to long to reach the page so it can't do it. When I try to change my router setting with the app Genie it won't let me since my router can't be found or is not supported. I tried a lot of thing I could found on internet but nothing worked. If you guys could help me it would be great! Thank you

    That 192.168.0.20 looks wrong.

There are often problems coming back from dd-wrt to stock firmware and it's often difficult to find what you need to do on the dd-wrt forums.

The problem might be dd-wrt leaving conflicting NVRAM settings, you should have set the router back to factory defaults in dd-wrt before loading the firmware.

Even so the NVRAM settings can still conflict requiring they be erased before things will work properly.

I don't know if the Netgear tftp firmware update procedure will also erase NVRAM when the firmware is uploaded, a Netgear person will need to answer that one.

But if it does that could be a way to resolve the problem too.

You could try making sure no other devices are using DHCP assigned addresses by, perhaps, turning them off (so that there won't be a possible duplicate address).

But then the router appears to have an incorrect DHCP address range set so this might not be a problem at all, better to be safe though.

Then set your computer's address manually to one that is in the range 192.168.1.2-254, probably over 200 is better in case there ends up being a duplicate address on the network, as the higher addresses are less likely to be assigned by the DHCP server in the router.

For the subnet mask use 255.255.255.0 , as usual, and the gateway 192.168.1.1, and DNS 192.168.1.1, as it is in the above post.

If the router has an address of 192.168.1.1 (and it appears it does from the above post) then your computer with address 192.168.0.(anything) will not be able to communicate with the router or anything else in the 192.168.1 network. That's the point of setting the address manually.

Then try to connect to 192.168.1.1 in a browser and see if it works.

  • You were originally running DD-WRT firmware and you tried to revert back to stock firmware?  If the update was successful, then try connecting at 192.168.1.1.  That's the default address used by stock firmware.

Exactly, I tried going on this page too but it does the same thing. It can't load. I have no access to any pages that would help me download a new or older firmware

Do the lights on the router look normal?

When you plug a computer into one of the router's LAN ports, does it get an IP address?  Did you try connecting to the default gateway address?

Did you try performing a factory reset?

  • When I enter 192.168.1.1 it always says it loading timed out and I tried doing it with the Ethernet cable, or even trying to connect to the default Netgear Wifi network but it always times out.
I don't know what is Kaspersky I'm pretty sure I dont have it but ill keep looking for it.

I don't have KasperSky. If anybody would have any tip to help me it would be appreciated! Thanks TheEther for trying.

Do you have any firewall at all?

If you do, try to turn it off.

Can you still communicate with the router by pinging that IP address in the command prompt?

        See the link below.

  • OP's network adapter appears to be using DHCP. The only thing left to try is a factory reset to clear any nvram settings from DD-WRT. Press and hold in the reset button for 8 to 10 seconds until all lights flash on and off. Then wait a few minutes for the router to reboot.
