Nighthawk 5Ghz Useless (Netgear PAY ATTENTION!)
I see it over and over in here and somehow the discussions are marked "solved". No, theyre not solved. When the only solution is to reset a router to 3 or 4 year old firmware, that should not be acceptable on any level. Shame on you Netgear! How about we get a Netgear nerd on here to tell us what's really going on with the 5Ghz being absolutely useless on these routers? Anyone?

You realize this is the public support forum?
The members on here helping aren't netgear. Aren't affilated with them. And we don't have "insider" info on them.
And the "solved" are usually marked by whomever posted the "issue". They click on solved and it marks it solved.
Occassionally a moderator can mark it solved that but thats extremely rare.
there's been theories about different chips (sourced chips) used during production as to why some devices work fine on the latest firmwares and others don't. If we knew why it didn't work properly on some, I'm sure there'd be a fix.

Anyone?I have a couple dual and tri-band Netgear routers and the 5G works great. I am not using 3 ~ 4 yr old FW.

Here's another "theory" you'll see a lot on here: NetGear firmware is hot garbage.
Don't count on any NetGear firmware update to solve any problems you are having; it will likely make it worse.
I had the same experience with my X10, the 5Ghz was not great but after switching to DD-WRT and applying the optimum configuration for wifi settings I found on their forums, it was like a whole new world. All wifi bands are faster and more reliable than ever, so good I almost forgot I spent $400 on a router that I had to pay shipping to RMA once then the replacement failed again a year later and now can't run stock firmware at all.
