Nighthawk X4S r7800 - DNS settings
We had issues with our ISP (Cox) and to connect to the internet I had to manually change the DNS on our phones and PC's. Since then my Nest thermostat can connect to the router, but can't get on the internet (so no access to the Google Home app etc). Nest support says that there is no way to change it on the device and that it has to be set on the router. Honestly, I'm a neophyte to this kind of thing... can anyone give me some guidance? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Really shouldn't need to change DNS settings unless something is happening at the ISP or ISP DNS level.
Try changing from ISP DNS to Google DNS or cloudfare on the router under Advanced tab/Internet setup.
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended. - michaelkenwardGuru - Experienced User

What was the issue? Sounds like you got bad advice from the ISP.
Go back to square one and you might find a better solution that does not screw up everything else.
